This activity helps us reflect on what’s truly important to us for a good life—and gives us a fun way to get to know each other better!

Look at the pictures and guess who the items belongs to by filling in the blanks with the names of your classmates.

Discussion in small groups (🕒 ~5-10 minutes) 

Show each other your pictures. Then, ask each other questions to start a discussion. 

The questions will help you connect and understand each other better:

• What made you choose your four items?

• Was it difficult to decide what was most important to you? Why or why not?

• Did any of your items surprise you once you saw them all together?

• Do you think your items would be different if you lived in another country or culture?

About your classmates’ choices:

• Which items surprised you the most? Why?

• What were similar of different?

• Which items made you feel like you had something in common with someone else?

Writing: what I learned about a good life – through my items and my reading (🕒 ~5-10 minutes)

Think about what you’ve learned about what makes a good life—both from choosing your own four items and from reading about the life of the main character in your book. Use the questions to plan your writing. 

• Was it easy or difficult to choose your items? Why?

• How did you feel about sharing the items? Why?

• Based on the book that you are reading, what is that person’s life like?

• If the character had to choose four items to represent a good life, what do you think they would pick?

• What similarities or differences do you see between your life and the character’s life?
