About your choices:
What made you choose your four items?
Was it difficult to decide what was most important to you? Why or why not?
Did any of your items surprise you once you saw them all together?
Do you think your items would be different if you lived in another country or culture?
About your classmates’ choices:
Which set of items surprised you the most? Why?
What common or similar themes can you find in our class?
Which items made you feel like you had something in common with someone else?
Writing: what I learned about a good life – through my items and my reading
Reflect on what you’ve learned about what makes a good life—both from choosing your own four items and from reading about the life of the main character in your book. Use the questions to guide your writing.
Was it easy or difficult to choose your items? Why?
How did you feel about sharing the items? Why?
Based on the book that you are reading, what is that person’s life like?
If the character had to choose four items to represent a good life, what do you think they would pick?
What similarities or differences do you see between your life and the character’s life?
