Thrift Pop-Up Shop
Thrift Pop-Up Shop
Last Thursday, the Thrift Club held the Thrift Pop-Up Shop. I never thought High Point would have something like this physically on campus. I thought they would be more of a conservative university that did conservative activities like golf. I'm not sure if that's me being too judgmental, but still. The overall consensus is that the event wasn't that bad, as we all ended up leaving with stuff, but the part that confused us was the pricing. On the official Instagram, it said $5 for whatever you can fit into a bag. But when we get there, there's pricing for different things. We were all confused because clearly someone lied. But let me dive into the specifics I remember.
The pricing is the main thing I want to talk about. The pricing was really good, other than the fact that someone lied. I don't think I'll get over that because if someone made a mistake I'd rather them just own up to it. I think that's why many people didn't buy much. Not much was completely being sold, probably because a lot of people only brought like, a few bucks. I had my $5 and bookbag ready to be stuffed until I left anthropology and saw the pricing. Luckily, I had more cash in my wallet, and what I bought was only $10. But someone still lied and if the Instagram post was right, I want my $5 back. Another thing is the surprising lack of clothes. I mean, there were a lot of clothes, but were they good? Most of them no. But there weren't that many shoes or accessories surprisingly. I feel like that was going to be the biggest category other than the dresses, but there weren't that many of them either. There were A LOT of jeans/pants though. I just feel like I shouldn't have seen the things I've donated at all. Like, I found the bootleg Uggs AND the plaid skirt from SHEIN immediately.
I did find an H&M sweater dress in an XS, a pink ribbed crop top that doesn't look see-through, and a holiday sweater that I'd actually wear, so I'd count that as a win. I'm really happy with the stuff I got because I think I got some of the cutest stuff in there. I was iffy about the jeans/pants area because I don't think I'm really a denim person anymore. If I do get jeans, I want them to either have a straight-leg baggy look or be flared. Probably the straight-legged jeans though because I think those are more timeless than the flared jeans. I'd just have to do something about the waist part. One of my friends did find some John Galt jeans though, which is a win in my book because I didn't think many people here shopped at Brandy Melville, let alone had anything related.
In conclusion, or my version of a conclusion, the pop-up shop wasn't that bad. I imagine they do one each semester too, which means a better possibility for new clothes. And better ones too. I think these ones were the clothes that people brought with them just because. And now that they have new clothes they dumped them into the donation bins. I do want some clarity on the pricing in the future though, because I feel like many clothes were left behind due to the confusion.
