Possibly Vintage Makeup Bag
Possibly Vintage Makeup Bag
So, I went to a thrift store called Mega Thrift with Chloe. I didn't have high expectations as this was a thrift store in North Carolina. This isn't the most fashion-forward state of course. But, we did find things we liked. She got a long black skirt and a striped half-zip sweater. I found a basic baby pink tee, a vintage-looking Wild Fable skirt, and a possibly vintage makeup bag. It's from a brand called Aura Science. I asked my mom if she knew about the brand and I'm waiting on her response. Any article I could find on the actual brand was from 20 years ago, so this makeup bag is possibly almost vintage.
Thankfully, I found the bag on Poshmark to provide actual pictures. It's a shiny burgundy bag with three compartments. Each one has a zipper and it clasps close on the top. I picked it up because it looked really cool. I thought it was like a big wallet at first, but I opened it up and was surprised. It was a vintage-looking makeup bag. I don't know what the material is at this moment, but my bag has these dark spots in certain places. It's giving a combination of plastic and leather if that makes sense.
What's interesting though is the fact that I can barely find anything on this brand. And if I do find something, it's an article from like 20 years ago. I think they were a skincare brand. Apparently, Aura Science may have had something with Victoria's Secret too. It was probably another thing with makeup and skincare of course, but they collabed with probably one of the most known brands out there. Which makes me wonder, how big was Aura Science anyway? Because I literally can't find anything on this brand.
This image on the side is basically the only thing I could find about it. Other than the fact that it possibly closed all their US stores. Though I'm not sure if they had any other stores in any countries. Maybe Japan because whenever I read something about it, it always says Japan in there.
According to Bizjournals.com, Limited Brands closed their stores for makeover reasons in early 2004. But then vmsd.com claimed they had stores in major areas like Chicago, New Jersey, and Washington DC. But I still can't find anything on this brand. Not even on YouTube. But I found people selling makeup and skincare from them on eBay and Poshmark, which scares me. Because how do you have that? And why are you able to sell basically 20-year-old makeup?
UPDATE: My mom knows nothing about this brand whatsoever. Like doesn't even recognize the name.
This brand actually intrigues me, because why can I find like, almost nothing on it? People were selling makeup and skincare, I even found one of the makeup bags from a set, and yet nothing? No Wikipedia, no commercials, and barely any articles. This makes me want to travel back in time to see these types of brands in action because I'm sure there are MANY brands that were amazing back then, but probably never made it past like 2008. But on the bright side, I think I may have scored an almost vintage item from an unknown brand. I may go on Reddit and ask people if they know this brand and if they were popular back then. Because I don't think they made it to the online website phase of the 2000s.
