Ballet Flats
Ballet Flats
This is just another appreciation post for something I like. I have always loved ballet flats. I've never had much to go with them so I never wore them often. But, now that I don't have to have some physical education requirements, I can do whatever I want. I can have all the ballet flats I want. They're also coming back into style lately so I'm very happy about it.
Apparently, but not shockingly, they became popular in the 50s and 60s when people like Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy wore them. Not surprising considering that they were some of the most fashionable people of the time. I think they resurfaced in the 80s, most likely part of the very popular activewear trend as something easy to work out in. I actually find that very hard to do, considering the fact that if the sizing is off by like a centimeter they'll fly off your foot. But I think they were used to be cute footwear to match the tightness of the outfit. But why we know ballet flats to be popular is with the business casual trend around 12 years ago. That trend went on for a while too. I remember girls wearing pencil skirts with peplum tops and stilettos looking like they just came from church. I don't know why this was a trend though, I was too young to understand. I think the shoes were my favorite part of this trend, as the ballet flats were definitely in there, as well as the stilettos.
They've clearly made a comeback in the last, like, year and a half and I'm not mad about it. I actually really like it because now, they're not just used for children and business wear. Obviously, there's a certain style that's preferred, but with the amount of different colors, materials, and patterns, anyone can find a pair they like, no matter the style one wears. We'll definitely be seeing them on the runway at some point, I just wonder who'd be first with it.
