SHEIN x Forever21 cont.
SHEIN x Forever21 cont.
So, I don't remember if I promised any updates about this SHEIN x Forever21 thing, but guess what? I saw a SHEIN notification about Forever21 on my phone so I decided to see if anything had happened. I'm not sure if they actually started selling on SHEIN yet, but according to ABC News, SHEIN started selling their things in Forever21 stores. Which isn't a bad thing for people who prefer to shop in person. It's also a good thing because then you get to see the quality for what it is and not be disappointed later on.
Apparently, SHEIN's been working to "sanitize" the current reputation they have with this partnership, though I don't know how much sanitizing you can do when you work with another fast fashion company. They also want to leave behind the allegations of forced labor and stealing art designs, though the art design thing was proven true many times over again. FashionNova is also no stranger to this, but that's certainly another entry for another day. Forever21 also has some major goals, the main one being to revive the presence it had on us about 10 years ago with younger generations who prefer to shop online.
I think this whole partnership is way better for Forever21 than SHEIN because I feel like Forever21 has been struggling these last couple of years. Like, even before COVID. When I was in middle and early high school, it wasn't about Forever21. It was about Uggs, PINK by Victoria's Secret, and Bath and Body Works sprays. Very few people that I know of shopped at Forever21, probably because their stuff never really fit people right. Like if something actually fits you right I'd consider you lucky. Not to mention it's like you can't get light colored stuff at either one because it'll end up being see-through.
I'm happy for Forever21 because this really does give them a fighting chance in this world of online retail. I think eventually they would've just faded away, like Sears, and be known as an "old people" brand. Even though everyone basically sells the same things now but then again, is another conversation. But this also makes me very worried in terms of our environment. I think it's just a matter of time before they're all combined into one and they become an unstoppable force in online retailing. Like to the point where they're bigger than Amazon. I mean, SHEIN basically sells it all except food. Not to mention all the clothing dyes seeping into the ground in these landfills that are contaminating groundwater. I learned that in high school. I also learned that most clothing we donate ends up in landfills anyway, so there's that.
Anyway, so I think this is aiding in the current end-of-the-world energy going on. Like the amount of groundwater that'll be contaminated will be insane. Not to mention the dyes, which are already harmful as is.
