Halloween!
Halloween!
I'm so excited for Halloween this year. Mostly because I'm an actual adult now. I literally can be whatever I want. This year, I'm going to be basic and test the waters. I chose to be a bunny girl, just as a test to see how comfortable I am with the idea of more "adult" costumes. Just think about what the movie Mean Girls said about Halloween. Like, it's true. I can't wait to see all the costumes people come up with here. Halloween would be a fun holiday here, mostly because people here have money. So I'd assume holidays would be fun here.
What I'm going to use for my bunny girl costume is my birthday corset, which is black and pink, fishnets, boots, and maybe a skirt. I don't know if I wanna use a skirt or a black pair of shorts. I think we'll see how the weather is next weekend. But the image to the left is what I want it to look like, except mostly black. I even ordered new bunny ears for it. I would've used some old ones I had, but they wouldn't match the outfit. Also, they're like 5 years old anyway.
But I am a little upset at how Halloween is on a Tuesday instead of the weekend. But I'm pretty sure there will be things going on the weekend prior. I heard Nido gives out full-sized candy bars though. So I'm excited for that. I also think some teachers might give out candy as well, definitely not full bars though.
What I especially can't wait for is the costumes people might wear. I feel like some people would wear theirs to my anthropology class since that's my Tuesday class. I'm expecting to see some Spiderman costumes out and about as well. Maybe even some Batman here and there. But another thing I'm excited about is the shoes. If the girls dress up, I really want to see the shoes and makeup, as they can make or break a costume. I love a good heel or boot to compliment it. People also become really creative with their makeup depending on the costume, so that'll also be fun.
I also love group costumes. I actually attempted one with my sisters, but because of budget reasons, it wasn't the best. We decided to be Steven Universe Characters. My younger sister was Sapphire, I was Ruby, and my older sister was Garnet. Garnet is a fusion (combination) of Ruby and Sapphire. But as I said, the budget is why it didn't look good. My older sister and I had cheap afros that felt like they were made from like, tulle, and our body paint was just not good. It was also cold so we couldn't have the actual costumes. We had to create winter versions of them. My younger sister had the best costume out of all of use though.
I never knew why Halloween existed though and why we dress up for it. I know it's technically a Christian holiday, as most holidays are in this country. I think. But, apparently, Halloween is one of those holidays that may have Pagan roots. One theory is that it came from the Gaelic festival Samhain. It's further believed that it was Christianized to become All Hallows Day/Eve, whatever that's supposed to mean. I think I'd need to research Samhain to understand why. It also could've been a Christian holiday, to begin with. The Irish and Scottish apparently have been celebrating this for centuries, then brought over customs to North America. I think lighting fires, telling stories, and apple bobbing are the oldest traditions. Some also attend church services for the holiday. However, I think most are at home wearing costumes or giving out candy.
I'm so excited for my first Halloween away from home. I'll do an update on the types of costumes I see afterwards.
