I Watched the VS Tour '23
Sooooo, honestly, I don't know where to start. Like this documentary had nothing to do with Victoria's Secret as a brand. The diversity was the best thing about this tour. I like how they were showing artists from different cities for exposure reasons. But other than that, this doesn't make any sense.
Listen, Victoria's Secret was designed to be a runway show brand, and less of the theatrics were needed. They definitely copied Rhianna's brand Savage X Fenty, and it was very obvious with the performers and the backgrounds they used for the models. What the models were also wearing mostly had nothing to do with the lingerie brand either. There was this little fashion show part while they were in Columbia. There were actual lingerie-looking things with a couple of sexy dresses here and there. Naomi Campbell was modeling a jumpsuit with pointy breasts though. There was also a bit in London where they went through the archives and they were trying on certain looks. That was a cute moment because I got to see the looks that former Angels wore. It also looked like fun.
Now here's a review I read on Prime Video: "I think I missed where the runaway was at. Is it the offly generic one towards the end of the "movie" that was so dark and quick you think you missed it? Oh, I think they forgot after giving a tour of the new model's background stories of revealing what makes an angel. They failed to show the VS clothes they're trying to sell. They picked some famous models popular on Instagram to bring in viewers but sadly all they did was stand in an almost Great Expectations villa and stare at each other weirdly like a dominant thing, what is sexy in that? VS is trying to start new because of a minority of hate and also ripped apart what was working for them. Didn't see the separate Pink VS section? Maybe they had it, but all this is entirely forgettable, if not, you would love to. They don't even look like they have an audience watching them on the runaway, which has some irony. The best part was sitting there for 10 minutes trying to figure out why everyone was so eager to squeeze through cars in the street. What? Trying to show the new plus-size models can fit too? Like what? In conclusion, I could go on but there is no point, someone is always going to be unhappy. I think the groups of people that wanted to see change wanted the exact runaway and audience just not all "5'10 and 120 pounds." If I was a previous VS model, I would not want my name anywhere near this 2023 tour."- JK on Amazon.
I think this review summed up my views enough. It was very all over the place in terms of theme. Like the review said towards the end, I wanted to see the original show, just with more body types and skin tones. I feel like the theatrics was just so unnecessary. It looks very performative towards the people who wanted the brand to at least look like they fit bigger sizes. It's just going to make them more upset because it looks like a desperate, performative cash grab. I mean they were already losing revenue gradually but that's another conversation. Many people just don't like the brand, and that's fine, but I feel like some of these bad reviews were literally just because of that. Which isn't fair in the long run, but what's out there is out there.
The last sentence definitely had me thinking about the famous people in the documentary. For example, Naomi Campbell and Adriana Lima are highly valued models in the industry. I wonder what people are going to think when they see that this comeback wasn't...the best I should say. I'd be scared if my name was in something people rated so poorly. As of right now, it has 1.7 stars on Prime. Like I would want to disappear and/or hope that people forget about it in 6 months. But unfortunately, the internet doesn't let things go easily. I hope this doesn't damage their reputation in the future.
