AKA with local students
The duty of our Experiential Learning (EL) at Aberdeen Kaifong Welfare Association Services Centre (AKA) in 2021 was to provide homework assistance (HA) and a language enhancement program (LEP) for local primary school students.
The main content of our LEP was basic phonics, primary English and Mandarin. Due to the variety of students' ages and abilities, we separated into two groups to teach the junior and senior classes. Both classes had Special Educational Needs (SEN) students. It brought us complex challenges but also an excellent opportunity to learn to be better teachers:
To understand the learning predicament of local primary school students.
To guide students in solving problems independently and applying knowledge to various situations.
To design and organize an activity-oriented program for students, with many exciting games, motivating them to learn and practice languages.
To be flexible in encountering emergencies and be capable of adjusting teaching approaches when necessary.
To work as a team, constantly communicating and exchanging ideas and resources with one another.
To observe the features of different SEN students and also develop related communication and teaching skills.
To recognize and support the mental needs of students.
We had a profound and enriching experience throughout our EL in AKA. With all we have learned from here, we will continue our journey to become teachers who have professional capabilities and empathy to enlighten and educate our students in the future.

Homework Assistance
Homework overload is one of the widespread issues in HK education. We provided homework assistance on weekdays. While we were helping our students with homework, we also tried to teach them how to solve problems independently.

Flag Day
Flag day refers to a day on which public fundraising of charities takes place. We sold charity coupons for elderly service and welfare with our students in Sai Wan. We believe it is essential to nurture a sense of community and service in children. Besides, through this activity, our students learned how to communicate with different people.
Pre-departure
We did a "gallery walk" about our self-expectations of the EL before we started our journey.
Reflection
At the end of the EL, we reviewed our journey in AKA, reflecting on what we had experienced and learned.
Students' Feedfback
Our students enjoyed the LEP, so they recorded their voices and talked about which class activity they liked the most.
