Passion for Reading
Books & Beyond Reading Club
Books and Beyond is a passionate English learning place which is totally free for learners. Students are encouraged to join in the warm English reading environment provided by caring volunteers.
It is precious for us to take a closer step to teaching primary students. Although it seems not an easy case to handle the whole class before being certificated teachers, volunteers from Books and Beyond have given us various advice and demonstrations on how to make students enjoy the class and how to inspire students to study English through interesting stories. The wonderful program not only proves that learning can be enjoyable, but also resonates with us through the care afforded for children from disadvantaged families.

Due to the special situation this year, to ensure timely and effective communication, we held regular Zoom meetings.
Since we are a relatively big group, under the suggestion of Ms. Yen, we divided into two teams to present a documentary and a sharing of game designing in teaching.
Zoom Classes
This is a series of typical interactive story-telling classes for Grade 4 students. The lesson mainly contained two parts of story-telling and games for consolidation, where we, as the volunteer teachers, would participate.
During the classes, we offered to tell the stories, using body language to make ourselves understood. We asked students questions to check their understanding. We hosted the Trivia games to recall and consolidate the content they learned in class.
We took different roles to challenge ourselves and interact with our young audience. There was truly a lot of fun!

Senior Stories
Through the link, members checked whether the stories or the content of the website was missing, ensuring the link was connected with the correct story. We were asked to figure out whether the words on the storybooks were clearly seen. We were also requested to check the audios of the stories and the questions on the after-class practices to make sure everything ran smoothly.
