In 2007, when I was just beginning to learn the principles of technical origami design, it became one of my long term goals to design and fold a Mantis Shrimp. I decided it was time. These things can be very confusing to look at, so I did a lot more research than usual - I based my design on three different photos and drawings as shown below. Not only did it turn out as good as I could possibly have hoped, but it was not nearly as frustrating to fold as I feared it would be. This model came together easier than I thought it would and was very enjoyable from start to finish. I've included a second picture this time in order to better show the details from the front view, particularly the six maxillipeds, that are hard to see from the side view.
