Aim: This task invites you to take part in a live lesson via WhatsApp as both a ‘learner’ and a teacher, and to share your thoughts on the experience.
Time: 60 - 75 minutes
In this last WhatsApp live session, you will be taking over the role of teacher and working in mini-groups to practise delivering part of a WA live lesson to a group of your peers. The session will be delivered synchronously (in real time) by your trainer, in a WhatsApp group, and will last 45 minutes, 20-25 minutes of which will be dedicated to giving you the chance to practice delivering the lesson material using a WA live lesson script (as seen in Task 7.4). Your colleagues will act as your “learners”. At the end of the session you will be given a chance to reflect on the experience and share your reflections with the whole group. This ‘hot notes’ part of the lesson will last about 20 – 30 minutes, and it also takes place in WhatsApp, using text or Voice Notes.
For the teaching practice component of the lesson, you will be using extracts from the script for the WA live lesson you attended in Module 6. Your tutor will give you further instructions during the session. Please attend the session on your computer if at all possible. Delivering the lesson material on a phone is very difficult.
Before the session, please do the following:
1 Watch the video tutorial below for help in setting up your computer for the teaching practice section of the live session.
2 Download and look at the script that you will be using in your teaching practice. The link to the script is at the foot of the page.
In the next task (Task 7.6), you will have a chance to discuss your experience in the Module 7 WhatsApp teaching practice in more depth, during a video conferencing session. And in task 7.8 you will be asked to write your own WA live lesson script for a short task and try it out with your own learners, or with a group of peers. You will get a chance to share your reflections in the final Share it! Task.
