AIM: This task asks you to apply what you have learned in the first module to your own online teaching context.
TIME: 30 - 45 minutes, approximately
It sometimes feels more productive to keep going than it does to stop and check where you’re going. However, effective teacher development encourages a ‘review, reflect and apply’ stage. It’s as important for you to do this as it is for your learners after a key activity or milestone. We’ve built reflections into all of the modules on this course. Here we ask you to reflect on what you have learned in this first module and how you could apply this to your teaching context. Look at the questions below and make notes on your reflections. You could keep your notes in a written, audio or video ‘learning diary’ to refer to during - and after! - the course.
Do you believe that high-quality learning can take place online without interacting with your students face-to-face? Has your opinion about online teaching and learning changed during this first module? If so, how has your opinion changed?
Think about your lessons and whether they promote the ‘4Cs’. What more can you do to prepare your students for the 21st century? Think about the subject and age group you teach. Choose one of the four C’s and reflect on how you would apply it to a live online lesson, for example via WhatsApp and/or via video conferencing. What would you need to take into account?
If you have used VC tools in the past, how effective do you think your teacher presence was? What adjustments could you make to improve your teacher presence in a VC session in the future?
Choose one of the 4C’s and think of a short online task that would help your learners practice or develop that skill.
