We’ve built reflections into all of the modules on this course. Here we ask you to reflect on what you have learned in this second module and how you could apply this to your teaching context. Look at the questions below and make notes on your reflections. You could keep your notes in a written, audio or video ‘learning diary’ to refer to during - and after! - the course.
What the main pros and cons to WhatsApp live online teaching and/or teaching via video conferencing, for you and your learners? How could you overcome some of the cons?
Think about your own F2F classroom lessons and the WhatsApp live lessons you have experienced so far on this course. How would you need to adapt your physical classroom teaching to teaching via WhatsApp? What activities could you do via WhatsApp, and what activities would be more difficult to do via WhatsApp?
Reflecting on your experience of the WhatsApp live lessons so far on the course from the learner’s perspective, what would you say are your own Dos and Don’ts for WhatsApp live online teaching? Make a list and check against those in Task 2.4 – are they the same or different?
Think about the effective strategies for synchronous online teaching suggested in this module and what you usually do in the classroom with your learners. Are there any other strategies you think you could also transfer to live online teaching? Why? Why not? If yes, which ones? How?
Choose your top 3 effective strategies for synchronous online teaching and rank them in order of importance with your most important first and your least important last.
Share them in the WhatsApp group (via text or a VoiceNote), and add a question for your colleagues to encourage conversation about your choice of effective strategies!
