Aim: This task invites you to assess how confident you feel about teaching online.
Time: 5-10 minutes, approximately
You may not have much (or any) experience of teaching online before taking this course - and that's fine. Please do this self-assessment quiz to see both how well-prepared for teaching online you feel. The quiz will also give you an idea of the course content. You will repeat the quiz at the end of the course and hopefully, your self-assessment will improve as you learn and develop these new skills. NOTE: the score you achieve in the Digital Quiz is simply for reference. It is not connected with passing the course.
The skills you need to become a competent online teacher are the same whatever language or subject you may teach. The content of what you teach may be different, but the overall approach is the same. How confident do you feel about teaching your learners online? Take the Digital Quiz below and find out!
If you are using a computer, please follow these steps to complete the Digital Quiz:
Download and save the Word version of the Digital Quiz (below) to your computer.
Complete the Digital Quiz by typing your score into each box. The total score will appear automatically at the bottom of the document.
Save the document with your answers. Change the file name of the document by typing your full name (name and surname). Replace 'ADD YOUR NAME HERE' with your own full name, in the file name.
Email the document to your COELT trainer as an attachment.

On this course, you can tap into the digital confidence and skills you already possess to build your online teaching skills. We hope this course serves to develop a community of practice, allowing us to share ideas, support each other, and share resources.
You’ve got enough digital confidence to come to grips with new devices, apps and platforms. You may not be a totally expert tech user, but you are an expert teacher. This is way more important! Don’t confuse technology with teaching. The goal is to use technology to facilitate engaging and effective teaching and learning. This course will empower you to feel confident about teaching online and improved digital competence will follow.
Training in how to teach online is required and that is why you are here. Feeling less digitally confident at the beginning of this course means you have the most to gain! With full engagement and practice, you can easily transfer your teaching skills into an online environment. If you are completely new to online teaching, take it slow initially. Focus on the key skills and apps for your learners and build it up from there. Remember you can always reach out to your online trainer and colleagues for support!
Don’t worry if you don’t feel completely confident yet, this course is going to help you build up your skills and confidence in each of these areas. You will definitely feel more digitally confident by the end of the course!
