Aim: This task analyses the structure and staging of WhatsApp live lessons.
Time: 20 - 30 minutes, approximately
Live WhatsApp lessons can be held with primary and secondary school learners. The basic principles for a well-planned and well-delivered live WhatsApp lesson are the same for all age groups of learners; they are also the same for whatever language or subject you may teach. The materials will be different in each of these cases, and the language you use to deliver your WhatsApp lesson may be different, but the overall approach is the same.
Let’s consider how the WhatsApp lesson shared with you in Module 1 is structured. Look at the main stages of a WhatsApp live lesson in the slideshow below. Match the stage of what the teacher (Anna) does, to each description. The images are from the WhatsApp live lesson that you experienced in Module 1.
Now, look at the stages above for a minute and think about why the teacher (Anna) did what she did. How would you justify each stage? Go through the stages and descriptions again, and try to explain the rationale behind each stage. Then, read the commentary below for each stage, to compare your ideas.
Let's review how much you know about WhatsApp. WhatsApp is a platform that can be used to deliver lessons to learners who have very little access to technology, and it makes sense that we are as familiar with it as possible. As a teacher, you should feel confident with WhatsApp, so you may want to review the WhatsApp Manual (on the Home page) before you take this quiz!
By the end of this course, you will feel more confident about how to create and deliver live WhatsApp lessons to your own learners, whether at primary or secondary level. You can include these stages and principles in your own live lessons, whatever language or subject you teach, so we suggest you remember these WhatsApp lesson stages for later reference!
