H.M.S. Urley was established in the area now referred to as Janets Corner a short distance from the station; this was part of the Fleet Air Arm during the hostilities and brought additional traffic to the station; a number of nissen huts were established for this purpose, one of which still remains today as a British Legion branch, though out of use. The facility was decommissioned in 1946.
