Replica Cattle Dock
Replica Cattle Dock
Once a feature of many stations along the line, and identifed as a potential project for the Friends Of... volunteers on their wish-list for several years, the recreation of the cattle dock on the remaining portion of the loading platform in the goods yard was one vision that was realised in the early part of 2026. Scale drawings were kindly provided by member Ed More based on photographic evidence and the project planned ahead of the advertisement hoarding which, in the end, took precedent and was completed in 2023 in time for the anniversary.
The pen was erected by the firm A.H. Contractors on our specification and completed by early March of 2026, timed ideally to complement the extensive works carried out on the site over that winter, including the resurfacing of the car park and complete renewal of traditional picket fencing. The volunteers also provided and interpretive information panel to accompany the dock as part of their ongoing committment to the historic site, and explaining its previous use to our visitors. This feature is part of our ongoing commitment to recreating the past.
