Archive Special Events
This section will be expanded over time, and will include historical events at the station since its opening in 1874 up to and including 2008, the year prior to the formation of the Friends Of... group. Being one of the main intermediate stopping points on the south line, the site has played host to many events over a century and a half and continues to do so up to the present day. Here we will illustrate a number of significant events from our own extensive archive.

Commemorating the Tercentenary of the Derby in 1971 the railway laid on a special train which was stowed on the goods siding for the return journey behind No.13 Kissack as seen here with regular driver John Elkin in an image courtesy of Steve Harris.
The diesel railcars at the station in 1975 when it served as the terminus, trains only operating between here and Port Erin for the duration the season in an ill-fated cost cutting exercise. The following year would see this extended to Ballasalla and the full line reinstated in 1977.
No.13 Kissack at the head of an evening special charter using the Bar Set of saloon carriages which now form the dining train, back in 1988 when such excursions were regular and often worked in conjunction with events at the nearby Viking Hotel.
