Formation Of The Friends
From humble beginnings at the initiative of seasonal station master Grant Taylor, the nucleus of an idea to form a support group for the station grew with the enthusiasm of local commissioner Carol Quine and saw small beginnings with floral displays on the site as the railway season progressed. This grew in the first year to include the provision of period platform furniture and historical signage.

Traditional I.M.R. Co., headings hand painted onto some of the first sign boards provided by the group to give a true heritage feel to the site; these were based upon some original boards donated in the earliest days.
Modest fundraising also began at this time, to establish what was to come. The group was a casual band of volunteers for this initial period and would later go on to become a formal chartitable organisation with constitution and full committee meeting on a regular basis. At the time it was pioneering in its outlook, being the first group of its kind to offer peripheral support to the running of the station.
