A space where you can let your creativity flow!
When our student tutor sent us the poster above, me and my friend Sophie immediately took upon the opportunity to socialize and get creative in our free time! So, when Monday the 17th of September came, we found ourselves ringing the bell in the Hyvan Mielen Talo space, in Oulu city center.
We were welcomed by Lölä, Belle & Laura, three lovely people that coordinate the space. They made us feel comfortable and welcome from the first moment, Lölä showed us the different rooms, explained that we can use any equipment that we want, and let us explore the space freely and choose any activities that we wanted to do.
The space included everything from board games, video games, arts & crafts materials, musical instruments, books. They also had free coffee or tea and many snacks like fruits & chocolate bars!
At first, we went to the arts & crafts room and decided to relax by drawing. There were materials for anything that we could imagine, from watercolors to fabrics, mixed media, charcoal, acrylics, oil paints.
There were two Finnish women there already, and we were chatting the whole time that we were drawing, which made the time pass more pleasantly.
We played "Forever Young" by Alphaville, and "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas.
On October 14th, me and my friend went back for the second Mindcraft meeting!
We felt the space very familiar to us instantly, and our friends were there greeting us with big smiles. We wanted to do some arts & crafts so we headed towards there. Lölä explained to us that they would take part in a Red Cross initiative where they would give food to homeless people, and they would include some cards inside the food boxes that would say a small nice phrase in Finnish. She told us that we could make a card of our own if we want to participate in the action, and so we did. We took inspiration from cards that were already made and started our collages!
Our arts & crafts session took up the most time, but in the little time that we had left we went back to the music room where Lölä was (again) playing the piano, and we jammed with her with our guitar.
Time passed very quickly - until next time!
It was Mindcraft time again on November, our favorite time of the month!
This time I did more of my favorite activity, making collages. I spent a lot of my time in the arts and crafts room, and afterwards there was some music too! We played everything from Disney to classical music. I tried being the second player in the piano!
I took more pictures, because I felt that I wanted to remember the details of this space.
