Self-Regulation and Collaborative Learning
Session 6 - 8.11
Objective: To reflect and adapt your learning for the course, to progress with your goals and finish your tasks,a s well as prepare for the collaborative phase.
Reflect on how you have reached your learn goals from this course.
MY LEARNING GOALS
By the end of this course, I want to be able to:
Create deeper connections between concepts related to learning, for example between metacognition and self regulation
Transfer theoretical concepts into models
Connect high-end competencies e.g SRL, Metacognition with basic skills and competencies and figure out how I can apply them in my learning designs in an age-appropriate way
For the individual task, I want to be able to:
Follow my reading schedule consistently - read the lecture's materials as soon as possible after each lecture ends
Reflect on each week's material at the suitable timing
I think that I have been so occupied with either deadlines from the previous courses or other events happening at the same time that, I haven't been able to build my schedule for this course, or even sit down and think about this course at all. It has an overwhelming schedule so attending the lectures along with all those other things has been taking up all my energy so far. It does help me keep in touch with the course and my goals in a way, but I haven't done much work outside of those lectures, so I would not say that any of my goals have been met so far. I plan on dedicating the whole weekend for catching up with what has happened so far.
Write down at least three most relevant things for you from what you have learned so far.
Context matters in SR - we might be self-regulated learners but if we, for example don't have motivation for a task we might not activate those SR mechanisms
Cognitive load causes [metacognitive monitoring] which causes movement
How are you doing with the deadlines?
Short position paper (due by 15th November)
I haven't started with writing this yet, but I have been ideating a lot in my head so I feel a creative flow.
Reflective learning diary (progress between 29th October and 7th November, final submission by 15th December)
I haven't started with formatting my diary the way that I want it to be. I have taken notes from all the lectures that I have attended, but I want to add some reading reflections as well and format them in a logical way.
Set new goals for completing each task.
Review the timeline for your tasks:
Have you been able to allocate designated time for exploring the material?
Short answer: No!
Long answer: I haven't done any readings yet. The first reading I think kind of intimidated me when hearing about it from others, which played a role in me not having done anything with it yet. But it's also because I've been trying to catch up with previous courses as I mentioned before. (The past week was the 1st week of the new period but also the week in which we had to submit our final projects in 2 courses - which again, i should have submitted earlier so that i would have enough time for the new courses)
What changes do you need to do for your working. How do you progress with your Reflective Learning Diary and other tasks next week and during the collaborative phase?
Changes that I need to do:
Do a little work everyday (!!!!) - not leave everything for the weekend
Start from the beginning - start crafting each session until I catch up to the one that we currently are
Mark new dates and your own personal deadlines as well as working times on your calendar, if needed to make changes.
--> Merge the course schedule with the LET Master's schedule
Think about the strategies you have used to achieve your goals and keep on schedule
Consider actions and strategies for managing the challenges and staying motivated and managing your time effectively. How have your strategies worked? Should you do something differently?
E.g seeking help from peers or instructors, breaking tasks into smaller steps, and setting regular check-ins with yourself.
-------------
-> I think that as it gets darker, it gets harder for me to be at home and actually do work - if I am at home for many hours I get sleepy or I am not motivated to study, even though I really like my set-up and I feel comfortable there
How I plan on changing it? -> Do a mixed environment studying! For some days where I feel that I'm not being productive, book rooms in the Library for studying and inviting friends to study together if our schedules meet
-> Ask my instructors more things
Form my questions, communicate them on chat or in the lectures, make a list of things that I want to ask first!
Helpful strategies for individual work from the whiteboard:
Get together with peers and make learning sessions
Divide the reading in smaller pieces
Spread learning out over as many days as possible
Collaborative work
-> Think about the learning goals of the course when designing
-> A video can start with an interesting research result, or an argument - something that rises interest
-> IDEA: kati san to TPCK video OR kapoio avatar to opoio na kounietai
-> its nice to have the faces in the video
