The Most Recent Deepfakes Convert Vintage Portraits Into Moving Pictures

Deepfakes and actual people are harder to distinguish from one another. A new feature called Deep NostalgiaTM, developed by genealogy portal MyHeritage, employs GANs to animate the faces in still photographs. It can create a facial video from a single photograph thanks to a license from the Israeli deep learning company D-ID.

It may mimic head and face motions by projecting a pre-recorded driver video with multiple gesture sequences onto a still image.

This will undoubtedly soon get a lot of media attention and intensify the discussion surrounding generative videos and deep fakes. Deep fakes have been a contentious issue for a while, but it's interesting to watch how commercial uses of this technology are developing.
