Law Clerk Attorneys

Law Clerk Attorney and Time-Limited Law Clerk Attorney positions are at-will pursuant to policy HR05. The job is exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA Exempt). Temporary and long-term Law Clerk Attorneys have the same general job description and salary range, but specific responsibilities typically do vary from one position to the next to meet the specific needs of a judicial officer, district, and court level. Leave Benefits

Law Clerk Attorney (LCA)

Other than the exception of Time-Limited LCAs as described below, LCAs accrue leave as governed by HR07-1, HR07-2, HR07-3, and HR07-4. To learn more about other potential leave benefits, please review Section 7 - Leave in our HR Policies.


Time-Limited Law Clerk Attorney

Time-Limited LCAs are traditionally employed for a one to two-year period of time, based on the needs of the court.

Leave for Time-Limited LCAs is governed by HR07-19. To learn more about other potential leave benefits, please review Section 7 - Leave in our HR Policies. Time-Limited LCAs who do not accrue traditional leave should enter 8 hours of administrative leave on state holidays.

Bar Dues

Eligible for payment of Utah Bar license dues and fees for inactive status only or for payment of inactive membership dues in the Bar of another state not to exceed the fee for inactive status ($150) in Utah.

Payment of Bar dues is made on August 31st of each year. Payment is prorated for LCAs who are aware on the date of payment that they will only be employed for a portion of the dues year. (Employment for any portion of a calendar month counts as employment for the entire month.) LCAs are responsible for paying the remaining portion directly to the Bar.

The Courts will reimburse dues to LCAs who are hired after the payment date and who will be employed for at least six (6) months. Similarly, LCAs who leave Court employment within the first six (6) months of the dues year are responsible for reimbursing the Courts for a prorated portion of the prepaid dues.
