Title of the project
Monitoring and modelling of hydrological processes for irrigation optimization at farm and district scale
Aims of the project
The aim of PhD thesis is to develop an agro-hydrological model that optimizes the irrigation volumes over large scales. The model utilizes the mapping of spatially variable inputs. This includes developing pedo-transfer models to map the hydraulic properties of the soil (i.e. soil water retention and hydraulic conductivity), utilizing remote-sensing applications to map crop data (e.g. Leaf-Area Index and Kc) and data available about irrigation network and registered irrigation volumes. The model, therefore, allows for monitoring soil water behavior, solute transport, and optimizing irrigation volumes on farm and district scales.
