Monitoring and modelling of hydrological processes for irrigation optimization at farm and district scale

Aims of the project

The aim of PhD thesis is to develop an agro-hydrological model that optimizes the irrigation volumes over large scales. The model utilizes the mapping of spatially variable inputs. This includes developing pedo-transfer models to map the hydraulic properties of the soil (i.e. soil water retention and hydraulic conductivity), utilizing remote-sensing applications to map crop data (e.g. Leaf-Area Index and K_c) and data available about irrigation network and registered irrigation volumes. The model, therefore, allows for monitoring soil water behavior, solute transport, and optimizing irrigation volumes on farm and district scales.
