Title of the project

Integration of terrestrial and aerial laser scanning technology for the analysis of Mediterranean forest ecosystems and the effects of natural and anthropogenic disturbance

Aims of the project

The aim of the PhD project is to develop innovative methodologies based on the integration of terrestrial and aerial laser scanner technology for complex forest structure evaluation and inventories. The integrated laser scanner based analysis of the forest structure will contribute to monitor the forest growth patterns in order to analyze the effects of natural and anthropogenic disturbances on forest degradation processes. In particular the developed methodology will contribute to:

̶ evaluate carbon stock change and biomass distribution within Mediterranean forest ecosystem under climate change scenario

̶ evaluate forest fuel model loads in order to predict forest fire risk and behavior,

̶ 3D modelling of forest management scenarios.
