Vermont

The trucks are headed to the Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory. The milk and cream are pumped into four 6,000-gallon storage silos, and kept cool at 36 degrees until the workers do their magic and convert the liquid into delicious ice cream.

But wait, where is the key to unlock the silos? The key will only become available after you unlock the Vermont locks. You have 30 minutes to solve the Vermont Breakout so all the creamy goodness can be made.

Vermont belongs to the The New England region of the U.S. which is comprised of six states: Vermont, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Vermont became the 14th state on March 4, 1791. The smallest state capital city is Montpelier. It is the only capital in the US that doesn't have a McDonald's restaurant.

The state of Vermont was originally called New Connecticut. The word origin of Vermont, is uncertain, but likely it comes from the French language. Vert translates to green and mont means mountain. Thomas Young, an American patriot and a participant in the Boston Tea Party suggested the name in 1777 for the new state. Today, Vermont's state nickname is the Green Mountain State.

In 1978, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield opened their first Ben & Jerry’s homemade ice cream shop in a Burlington remodeled gas station. Ben and Jerry wanted to start a business to make the best ice cream possible, use their business to do good, and have fun.

What is your favorite flavor? Could it be? Peanut Butter Cup or Chocolate Fudge Brownie. Perhaps you would like Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough or Cherry Garcia. Mint Chocolate Chip or maybe just plain Vanilla. Whichever direction you choose it will be mighty yummy. Enjoy!

Vermont record-breaking temperatures:

Coldest: -47º F

Hottest: 106º F.

Vermont is the largest producer of maple syrup in the United States, producing over 500,000 gallons a year.

The official state tree of Vermont is the sugar maple. The sugar maple is one of the largest and most important of the hardware trees.

These trees are tapped in the spring to collect their sap. The sap is made into tasty maple syrup.

Thirty-four gallons of sap are needed to produce 1 gallon of syrup. Maple leaves turn brilliant reds and golds in the fall of the year. How many gallons of sap would it take to make 4 gallons of syrup?
