The first free public library was built in Peterborough, New Hampshire in 1833. Word is going around that a renegade bunch is trying to make you pay ten dollars for each book checked out. The field of the New Hampshire state flag is blue with the state seal centered. The seal is surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves and nine stars. In the center of the seal is a battleship. It is the frigate USS Raleigh which was one of the first 13 warships built in 1776 for the new American Navy.

New Hampshire is one of the original Thirteen Colonies. This tiny sized state was admitted into the union on June 21, 1788, the 9th state. The state's largest city is Manchester and the capital is Concord. The Granite State is their nickname.

The 5th smallest in land area is bordered by Massachusetts to the south and Vermont to the west. Maine and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. To the north, NH is bordered by the Canadian province of Quebec.

The state fruit is the pumpkin.

New Hampshire’s state sport is skiing. The first ski club in the country was formed in 1882 in Berlin, New Hampshire.

The very first potato planted in North America happened to be in Nutfield, New Hampshire (the town is now called Derry.)

In 2013, the white potato was declared the state vegetable of New Hampshire.

This came about when students at the Derry Village Elementary School discovered an Irish immigrant had brought a sack of seed potatoes to their area in 1719. With the help of State Representative John O’Connor, House Bill No. 53 was passed and NH had an official state vegetable.

At just 18 miles, New Hampshire has the shortest coastline of any ocean-touching U.S. state.

New Hampshire is one of the best places to hike in New England. The state has 48 mountains with peaks higher than 4,000 feet,

Mount Washington is the tallest mountain in the Northeast. Once you reach the top of Mount Washington, you can see for 100 miles and view three states and Canada—It's quite a climb, but the view can't be beat.
