Nebraska  became the 37th state on March 1, 1867. The state lies in the midwestern part of the United Sates called the Great Plains. 

Nebraska is bordered by 6 other states: South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri,  Kansas, Colorado,  and Wyoming. 

The state capital is Lincoln and the largest city is Omaha.  

People who live in this state are called Nebraskans. 

Kool-Aid was invented in the state of Nebraska.

 The Kool-Aid Man is the mascot of this powder making beverage. 

He was introduced in the 1950's.  

His signature line  is "Oh, yeah!"

The National Museum of Roller Skating is located in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The state nickname used to be the "Tree Planter's State", but was changed in 1945 to the "Cornhusker State".

Nebraska ranks 37th in population with 1.9 million people.

Arbor Day was founded by J. Sterling Morton of  Nebraska City, Nebraska. The very first Arbor Day was held on April 10, 1872. Approximately one million trees were planted.

National Arbor Day is always celebrated on the last Friday in April, but many states and other countries observe Arbor Day on different dates throughout the year. Why?  It depends on the best tree planting times and climate for that area.
