The name "Oklahoma" comes from the Choctaw words: "okla" meaning people and "humma" meaning red, so the state's name literally means "red people." Oklahoma is the 20th largest state in area.

The first yield sign was invented by Clinton Riggs and Paul Rice. Clinton Riggs was a Tulsa police officer and Paul Rice was a Tulsa city engineer.

A yield sign indicates that each driver must prepare to stop if necessary to let a driver on another approach proceed. A driver who stops or slows down to let another vehicle through has yielded the right of way to that vehicle.
