What? So what? Now what?

In-class exercises

We did some reflection on our team film shoots and discussed what worked and what could be improved for next time,

Notes

Continue - What worked well during the shoot and edit, what will you do again?

The team was motivated and all wanted to do our best, everyone was working in roles that suited them well.

The shoot iteself was smooth and fluid. Both setup and packup was quick. We shot in order of location so we weren't going back and forth between locations.

No technical issues and we had all the gear necessary on set, with some reduncies available if needed.

Collaboration was encouraged, the shoot was based on Jazmin's idea but throughout the project she continuously asked for news ideas and feedback to improve the film.

The sound quality came out really well, the lav mic was placed in well thought out areas and I was able to use much of it without any modification (noise removal, EQ, etc).

Stop - What didn't work well, why will you not do this again?

Assembling the footage and audio took a long time during editing, some of the sound recordings didn't have the clapper in it which made it hard to line up.

Our lighting wasn't the greatest. It was a small room so we could only setup one big light and I used some small LED lights in the corner of the room but we didn't create enough contrast for more visual appeal.

Start - What will you do next time, to improve your process and outcomes?

We could've shot more coverage of some scenes from different angles, instead of only shooting what was seen on the storyboard.

The exposure was not the best on some shots, I didn't check it as much as I should have. From now on, with every new take I should check focus, exposure and framing. Every time.

My edit could've been more trimmed down. Some shots hang too long and some may even be unnecessary to include and should be taken out.
