ANI181 - Week 2

2021-06-18

(This lesson was meant to be on the 11th but class was postponed due to the teacher falling ill.)

What? So what? Now what?

Before class I cleaned up my storyboard frames and separated the layers I would need to move independently in After Effects. I saved the individual layers as TIFFs and began comping them in AE. I added some effects such as lightning and a glitch effect to demonstrate the keypad malfunctioning.

Today's class was all about learning After Effects. As I am already familiar with it I simply followed along while also helping out anyone learning AE for the first time. We animated solids, created shape layers and animated them. Lastly we found an image of a character online and used masking to separate body parts, animate them independently then added a glow effect to one of the parts.

With 30 minutes before the end of class we got to work on our animatics. I continued editing down my shots and showed Rafi what I had. His main feedback was that I had make sure my animatic was a maximum of 20 seconds. The time limit became my main focus as I had to squeeze in 13 shots and condense a lot of the action down to fit each shot properly.

I edited it down to something workable and during the week I will begin working on a sound mix.
