CIM312 - Week 6

Preclass Activities

Have you included a perspective different from your own?

The ony perspective of the story in our project is from the main character due to the simplistic mature of the narrative. The main character's perspective does align fairly closely with our own perspectives. It would be hard to write a different perspective without external help.

Have you researched this perspective from the stories of other people?

We have not because the narrative is designed to be simplistic so that the visuals can have more focus.

Is there any possible way your intention could be misread from people of other cultures?

There could be but I think it would be unlikely.

Summarise the 3 main points of the article:

  1. Representation of race, gender and sexuality in animated films has undertaken massive changes throughout its history. From utilising basic stereotypes which are now deemed as ignorant or racist to attempting to be more inclusive and understanding of different cultures to varying degrees.

  2. The methods of production have changed in the last few decades. Hand drawn was primarily the main method used for animated films until Pixar introduced computer aniamtion to the industry in 1995, creating a massive movement to what became the new standard. At the same time as the methods changed, the audience changed as well and the films started to include elements of culture from outside the western markets.

  3. Animated films have the power to influence our lives heavily by creating or adding to the expectations of our societies.

Examine your current work through a similar lens:

What viewpoints are you supporting?

  • We are looking at the world from a lower to middle class of western society point of view.

What ones are you missing?

  • Western societies have become extremely multicultural so there is room to add other viewpoints if we have a way to expand the story which is currently very simplistic.

Have you got research to back this up?

  • Australian Human Rights Commission. (n.d.). Face the facts: Cultural Diversity. Home | Australian Human Rights Commission. Retrieved July 5, 2022, from https://humanrights.gov.au/our-work/education/face-facts-cultural-diversity

Have you defined your terms?

  • Transhumanism and postmodernism.

During Class 1

Aesthetics pitch:

What do you want the audience to feel?

What is the background of this aesthetic? i.e. trope, pastiche, personal experience, culture, technique, theme.

How will this project achieve this expereince/What techniques/resources will it use to get there?

Minimum of 5 acedemic sources in APA7 format backing up statements.

"When people sees my product, I want them to feel this."

General notes:

Can you stop people infering things? No. Always be aware of how other may interpret your work.

Question why you want to include something. How can you get your point across without being misinterpreted.

A literature review provides the context of the research and practice of your project.

An acadecmic/scholarly text is peer-revieweved.

In-between Classes

Week 6 Workshop
