CIM210 - Week 11

2021-11-30

Over the weekend our group met on Disocrd to work on the project. We decided on the media platforms that our transmedia project was going to use. Yovan and Louie are going to make posters, Alex will create a website, Nina and Lara will create some audio logs and I will create a teaser and trailer with Alex.

During class we discussed fandoms and how they influence media and also watched a video related to the topic.

Afterwards, the groups went into breakout rooms and continued work on project 3. I continued working on the teaser trailer using stock footage from pexels.com and put them into After Effects then layered some distortion effects on top. I also used the title as a luma matte to cut out the footage in the shape of the title. Once I finished it, Alex also re-used some parts to put it into the full trailer.

Weekly Reflection

What?

Participatory culture in my own words:

Participatory culture is when an audience is able to interact, influence or even create parts of the media they consume.

So what?

An example of fan interaction:

In early 2013, the popular music producer Avicii announced a collaboration project that anyone could participate in, called "Avicii X you." Anyone around the world was able to create and submit music clips to be included in a song that Avicii would combine and release as a single. Thousands of people sumbitted over 12,000 sounds where fans could vote on their favourites and the highest voted ones would get used in the final song.

Now what?

How will your Transmedia Project promote fan engagement?

Our group has designed our project in a way that audiences will start from one platform and gradually move to the next as each part releases. Posters will attract interest from the general public, the teaser and trailers will increase interest and prime the audience to look to the website. On the website more of the narrative will be revealed and audio logs containing deeper elements of story can be found to listen to.
