CIM210 - Week 6

2021-10-26

On the weekend my group met on Discord to work on our project pitch. We analysed a poem called "Stop All the Clocks" by W.H. Auden.

Pitch Remix

During class on Tuesday, everyone presented their project pitches and received feedback. Kirstie said our analysis was great and really in-depth. She reminded us that the remix needs to be presented in a digital form so she suggested presenting our poem as a poster or some kind of video.

Our group will meet again sometime next week to work on the remix.

After the presentations were done, we watched a video on "Buy Nothing Day" where a CNN news host interviewed a person who was promoting an activist movement where instead of buying useless material goods on Black Friday consumers should choose to save their money and buy nothing. The idea is that by doing this there will be less negative impact on the planet with our finite resources and changing climate.

Weekly Reflection

What?

Media Activism in my own words:

Media Activism is the promotion of change or challenging a dominant ideology through the use of media, commonly done for political reasons but sometimes for other purposes too.

So what?

How can my discipline use Media Activism to promote change?

Animation can be used to present ideas and concepts to the public in an easy to understand way. Presenting things visually helps audiences understand the harder to grasp concepts in larger activist movements, such as animated infographics or explainer videos.

Now what?

What kind of causes would you like to raise awareness of in the work that you create? Is this something you could fight for on your own or would you prefer to be a part of an organised group?

Whenever I can, I like to support movements for equal rights. This issue has come a long way and is much better than it was many years ago but I believe there is still lots of work to do. As individuals we can teach others to be more accepting of everyone no matter who they are and together we can all fight for what's right by actively participating in discussions or activist movements that let everyone's voices be heard.
