CIM330 - Week 6

2022-10-24

What? So what? Now what?

I purchased a 2TB portable hard drive to move the Perforce server to since we estimate the project folder is going to exceed the 80GB currently available on my mini PC that I'm running it on. This was actually much harder than I anticipated because I was running it on Linux Mint and was having trouble with folder permissions.

After a couple days I eventually installed Windows 10 instead and created a fresh Perforce server and moved the project files to it.

There were still problems with pulling the massive amount of files on there to our personal working folders. After a bunch of more troubleshooting I found there was a problem if TCP packets were bigger than 1398 bytes. If everyone changes their Windows TCP packet maximum size to 1426 (1398 + 28 for headers) it should reduce the connection errors we've been getting.

We presented our progress in class over Zoom. There were some technical issues and it was hard for the guest lecturers to hear us and give us in-depth feedback but they said we appear 'technically adept' and should just continue working towards getting our assets into Unreal Engine as soon as possible.
