Every year, Kerr Elementary inside the Allen ISD school district hosts a 'Fun Fest' outside of school hours for the children to celebrate and have fun together. There would be bounce houses, inflatable obstacle races, and a DJ!
A: The AIM of this activity was to help at the Kerr Fun Fest to keep the children in order and safe in the various inflatables. I was assigned to the bounce house, before switching with my friends to the ring toss carnival game.
C: I had to communicate with the event planners with my role, as well as with my fellow volunteers about the rules of the bounce house. Since there were two, we had to coordinate our rules. Later, I also had to communicate with my friends when I called for us to switch roles.
T: The time for planning this event was sufficient. I learned of this event about a month beforehand, and planned with my neighbor and good friend to carpool to the location. When we got there, it didn't take long for us to get information and our jobs.
I: I did enough investigation. Since I am a former student of Kerr, I already knew what the Fun Fest woud be like. I also asked my friends who participated in the Fun Fest the year prior about what volunteering for the event would be like.
V: This experience was a wakeup call to me. I began getting tired around halfway through the event, despite not actually doing that much. I realized that this was an effect of my lack of physical activity in general, since I rarely exercise.
E: I felt very engaged. I helped make sure that they children inside had their shoes off before they entered, that they stayed safe inside and didn't fight, and that there would be a maximum of six children inside the bounce house at all times. After switching roles, picking up and interacting with the eager children was more tiring than I thought it'd be. Overall, the event was very physically taxing for me.
LO4: Midway through the event, I felt like I wanted to give up from how physically tired I was (to no fault of theirs; I'm just very unfit). However, I persevered to the end and managed to stay standing all the way until they called for the stations to close.
