First Friday Monthly Mass
Please remember we celebrate Mass with Fr Ray in school on the first Friday of the month at 8:05am in the old IT room. Why not make it part of your Lenten spiritual practice to join us.
St Joseph’s Family Centre Food Bank
As is our custom, the first Friday of the month marks that special time where we donate food items for the Centre’s food bank. The children are invited to donate food and wear non-uniform on that day. Thank you!
Site Security
The local authority has finally approved planning for St Joseph’s to install new fencing at the front of the school site. Once erected, visitors wishing to enter school during the day will have to be admitted electronically through the gate. The installation has gone to the tender stage so we are hoping the fencing will be in place very soon.
CAFOD’s Big Lent Walk
In solidarity with schools and parishes across England and Wales, we invite our children and adults to join CAFOD’s Big Walk for Lent.
WHY ARE WE WALKING THIS LENT?
Your sponsorship can and will change lives. Every £1 raised through the Big Lent Walk will help fight poverty globally in countries like Afghanistan, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan.
CAFOD and SCIAF have a shared project in Ethiopia and we are working together to respond to the devastating food crisis there. Years of drought caused by the climate crisis means families are no longer able to cope, but your support means we are working with people right now, providing them with water, emergency food and healthcare.
CAFOD's Lent Appeal this year highlights Lokho's story and her community's resilience in overcoming the devastating impacts of drought. Together, they worked to protect their crops from the harsh climate.
With your hard work and sponsorship this Lent, we can change families' lives for good and tell poverty to take a hike.
What do you need to do?
Simply walk throughout Lent, maybe to school, maybe at the weekend in the countryside, maybe just to the shops. But keep a record of your walks and of course get family and friends to sponsor you. All donations are to be made via JustGiving page links below. We will ask children each week to give us their totals so we can celebrate our Big Walk together. Let’s see how many miles we can do together!

CAFOD’s Silly Sock Appeal
Thanks to your generosity with our silly sock appeal in January which raised £162.80, Cafod was able to donate gifts for families in Peru and Bangladesh. Please see the cards sent to us in thanksgiving.
Year 1 Phonics Information Meeting
There is a Phonics Information meeting regarding the Year1 Phonics Screen that all Year 1 children have to carry out in June 2025. This will be held at 3.20pm on Thursday 6th March in the Year 1 classroom. If you are unable to make it, a copy of the PowerPoint will be sent home for your information. The Phonics Screen is a statutory assessment and will take place the week beginning the 9th June 2025.
If you have any questions before the meeting, please see Mrs Tyerman or Mrs Higgins.
Ofsted Inspection and Parent View
It is five years this month since our last Ofsted inspection, and as you would probably expect if you follow reports in the media, schools become somewhat nervous around this time as we want to show off all the good things we do for our children. The Parent View survey is one way we can listen to parents and affect change if necessary.
Presently, there are only a handful of replies to our 10-minute Parent View questionnaire which cannot give us useful information. Please support us in completing this as it helps us review our practice.

Food allergies
Please be reminded that some of our children suffer with severe allergic reactions to peanuts, nuts, lentils and peas. If an anaphylactic reaction occurs we are trained to immediately use Jext pens of Epipens and call 999.
Please do not use Nivea suncream as it has almond oil in it and we have children with severe nut allergies.
Please do not send any items containing the above into school for your child’s lunch or snack. This includes spreads like Nutella as it has hazelnut as an ingredient.
Thank you for your support, as always.
