Please see the attached letter form the headteacher at Birchwood HS concerning mobile phone use by children and young people. The letter is a very much needed initiative to support parents in safeguarding their children using mobile phones.
The evidence I have read, indicates that for the best results, a group of parents need to buy into a restrictive practice with children’s phones. In this way the group is self-supporting. Children are less able to say, ‘everyone else has one!’
We are hearing too many terrible stories in the media about bullying, grooming and the spread of dangerous materials for us to ignore the fact that mobile phones can be a gateway to danger for our young. Once the ‘cat is out of the bag’ and children own a mobile phone it is more difficult to protect them and prepare them for better use in the future. If plans are in place earlier, it can be beneficial for their safety.
PE Days for the first half term are as follows:
Monday: Y3 KS, Y4 KD and YR MR
Tuesday: Y2 CF/KR, Y3/4 NM, Y5 MW and Y6 RT
Wednesday: Y1 AH, Y2 CF/KR, Y3/4 NM amd Y6 MR
Thursday: Y3 KS (Swimming), Y4 KD, Y5 MW and Y6 RT
Friday: EYFS and Y1 AH
The date for Sports Day this year will be Tuesday 21st May, weather permitting. If this date has to be cancelled, then the reserve day will be Wednesday 26th June.
Please be reminded cars cannot stop to drop off children on the zig-zag lines outside the school gates. Neither should we park or stop across people's driveways.
It is illegal and also inconsiderate. One of our neighbours last week was delayed leaving home for an important hospital appointment. Also, a car was stopped on the corner of Larch Avenue, which is extremely hazardous for other road users and pedestrians.
Thank for your support.
