Timeline
The Provost reviews emeritus applications 3-4 times annually.
Process
The faculty member applying for emeritus status will email the following to the OFAPD (andy.griesenauer@health.slu.edu), assembled as ordered below in one PDF attachment:
Faculty member’s statement that provides a rationale for the awarding of emeritus/a status and addresses the eligibility specified in the policy or Manual. The statement must outline future faculty efforts (with appropriate authorization where necessary) during emeritus/a status
Faculty member’s CV
Recommendation of the applicant’s department chair . The department chair recommendation must outline anticipated faculty efforts in future. The chair must verify that appropriate authorization has been obtained if emeritus/a faculty participate in research efforts
The OFAPD prepares and sends the Emeritus Packet to the Appointment, Promotion and Tenure (APT) Committee for review at their next monthly meeting.
The APT Committee reviews the application and makes a recommendation to the School of Medicine (SOM) Dean regarding the awarding of emeritus status. The OFAPD forwards the APT Committee’s recommendation to the SOM Dean.
The SOM Dean reviews the application and makes a recommendation regarding the awarding of emeritus status. The OFAPD forwards the completed application packet, together with the APT Committee and SOM Dean’s recommendations, to the Provost’s office/University Office of Faculty Affairs.
The Provost reviews the application and makes a decision on awarding emeritus status.
The University’s Office of Faculty Affairs will send an official decision letter to the faculty member via email, copying the OFAPD and the faculty member’s department chair.
