Notes:
A faculty member who possesses the skills and competencies to justify an appointment in another academic unit or program may be given a secondary appointment, subject to the approval of the Provost or designee, upon recommendation of the Department Chairperson or comparable administrator of the primary academic unit and the appropriate Dean(s). A secondary appointment is non-tenurable and involves no sharing of salary between academic units or programs. (For more information, please see page 10 of the Faculty Manual).
Secondary appointments are not required to be reviewed by the School of Medicine Appointment, Promotion and Tenure Committee.
The secondary department chair must first obtain the permission of the primary department chair. (Note: If the primary appointment is not within the School of Medicine, approval of the primary school dean must also be obtained.)
Process:
The completed (with chair signatures, OFAPD will obtain Dean's signature) Secondary Appointment Packet (see below) is electronically emailed by the "secondary" department to the OFAPD (andy.griesenauer@health.slu.edu).
After ensuring the Secondary Appointment Packet is complete, the OFAPD forwards the Secondary Appointment Packet to the SOM Dean for review and recommendation.
The Dean's Letter of Recommendation is written and included in the Secondary Appointment Packet.
The OFAPD forward the Secondary Appointment Packet to the Provost's Office of Faculty Affairs.
The Provost's Office electronically sends a congratulatory letter to the faculty member, copying both of his or her department chairs.
Secondary Appointment Packet:
Electronically send to Andy Griesenauer as one PDF file in the following order:
