There are two types of volunteer faculty at the School of Medicine:
Community Physician/Preceptor - Members of the local health care community who volunteer to oversee SOM learners (medical students and residents) in a clinical clerkship capacity. Community Physicians receive no compensation from SLU's payroll system, yet are assigned SLU ID and usernames which provide access to our library resources & permission to claim an affiliation with SLU with a faculty title - "Adjunct Assistant Professor". Community Physicians are appointed for a term of 3 years.
Volunteer Adjunct - Individuals employed outside the university who contribute to the SOM's educational and/or research missions without receiving regular financial compensation or salary from the institution. These individuals are not overseeing SLU learners in a clinical clerkship capacity.
