Dear Parents,
Our first Christmas assembly this afternoon was a joyous celebration of Christmas! The enthusiasm of students, the variety of songs, and the festive costumes, made for a very enjoyable way to celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas, as well as the joy of being with family and friends at this special time of the year. Thank you to students, staff and parents for supporting our first Christmas assembly (See photos further on in this newsletter).
Farewell and best wishes to Jessica Welsh as she moves to another school next year. Jessica has been at St. Joachim’s for 12 years and will be missed. Farewell also to Sheridan Kellett, who is retiring after 30 years of working in the office at St. Joachim’s. I thank Sheridan for her many years of service to the school, and wish her well for the next exciting chapter to come.
Our first student orientation to 2026 classes will take place on Monday morning next week. During this session students will meet their 2026 teacher and classmates.
Social Media ban – As you would be aware, from 10 December 2025, the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024 will require social media platforms to: prevent children and young people under 16 from having a social media account, and deactivate or freeze existing accounts held by people under 16.
Delaying access to social media protects the health and wellbeing of young people and gives them extra time to build real world connections and digital literacy skills. The responsibility will be on the social media platforms, not parents, carers, children or schools, to implement these new restrictions.
Most popular social media platforms will be age restricted. These include Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), Reddit and YouTube. Messaging services and online games, as well as apps and platforms that support health and education, can still be used.
To help get under 16’s ready for the social media minimum age requirements, you can go to the eSafety website to learn more about the social media age restrictions and find tips on how to talk about social media age restrictions with young people. At MACS schools, all age-restricted social media platforms are blocked for student use on the school network.
Our Year 6 students, staff and families are looking forward to Graduation next Tuesday evening. It will commence with Mass at 6:00 p.m. in the hall and will be followed by a shared meal and disco for students. Parents are asked to pick Year 6 children up promptly by 9:00 p.m. With thanks.
Fr. Martin will celebrate St. Joachim’s end of the school year Mass in the hall at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday 11th December. All parents are warmly invited to attend.
Our end of the year awards will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday 16th December in the hall. All parents are also warmly invited to attend this special celebration of student achievement.
A reminder that school will finish for the 2025 school year at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday 16th December.

Our End of Year Whole School Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, 11th December at 11:30am in the school hall.
We warmly invite all members of our school community to join us for this joyful and meaningful celebration.
We were also delighted to have Luce, our Pilgrim of Hope mascot, along with her companion pilgrims, who beautifully highlighted the messages of hope, love, peace, and faith—reminding us of what truly matters at Christmas.
Their presentation was filled with enthusiasm, reverence, and genuine devotion. It was a heartfelt performance that helped us reflect on the true meaning of the season and the joy of welcoming Jesus into our hearts.
As part of our tradition, we begin the Advent celebrations a little earlier so that our whole school can fully reflect on each of the four themes, Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace, before the end of the school year. Throughout the week, the children explored the meaning of Joy in both our liturgy and their classroom learning. They reflected on how joy is shared through kindness, gratitude, friendship, and by recognising the many blessings in their lives. Their prayers, discussions, and activities showed a beautiful understanding that true joy comes from welcoming Jesus into our hearts and sharing His love with others.
The St Vincent de Paul team from St Anne’s Parish will be delivering Christmas gift hampers to families in need on Sunday, 21st December 2025, from 9:00am to 12:00pm.
If you’re able to assist, please contact Peter Vyverberg on 0432 120 704.
Your time and generosity will make a real difference this Christmas.
Many thanks,
St Anne’s Vinnies Hamper Team
We invite our school community to join in for these special occasions.

The orientation sessions are an opportunity to provide our students with a sense of belonging, familiarity with the learning environment: their classroom and an opportunity to get to know both the teacher/s and students that will be in their class.
Our teachers are very aware of how important it is to develop positive relationships with the students in their class and care. I ask that parents be mindful of your own reaction, expressions and comments when your child discusses their class placement with you. A positive response will have a lasting impression on your child’s attitude to the coming school year.
We can make next year a fantastic experience for your child, by working together, supporting each other so that each child can come to school happily and work towards achieving their fullest potential.
Parents will be notified of their child’s 2026 Classroom Teacher via Operoo on Monday afternoon.
And of course if you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact us.
Irene
As explained earlier this year we are amalgamating a number of the communication platforms used here at school. Operoo informed us in September that they were ceasing operations in Australia at the end of 2025, so moving forward to 2026 we will cease using Operoo. In 2026 our communication will now come through the nForma App on your phone or via the nForma portal on your desktop computer.
Access your Child's Reports
Mark Attendances
Receive notices
Receive Forms - the Form function allows us to create permission forms that require parental consent. This will take over from Operoo.
Medical - the medical module is where you will list your child's health conditions, attach health management plans and record medical history. This will take over from Operoo.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
The transition from pre-school to school is an exciting and important time for all children, their families and the school.
Here's our Welcome to St Joachim's 2026 website.

Students are getting excited and practising their songs for the upcoming Christmas Assemblies. Please look out for an Operoo that outlines what students are to wear on the day they are performing. We look forward to seeing you there.

Our enthusiastic and creative Year 4 students have been exploring terracotta air-dry clay and learning a range of hand-building techniques. This week, they combined pinch-pot and coil-pot methods to create a unique sculpture..
Students began by shaping a pinch pot as the base, then carefully rolled and attached coils to build up the walls of their design. Along the way, they learned how to manipulate the clay for strength and stability, smooth joins, and add texture or decorative details.
