Second Week of Advent – Celebrating the Theme of Peace

This week, our school community gathered to celebrate the Second Week of Advent (it is our tradition to begin the Advent season a little earlier so that our school community can fully celebrate all four themes—Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace). This week we focused on the theme of Peace. Our whole-school assembly on Monday, 24th November was a beautiful and reverent occasion, led with confidence and joy by our students.

Children from every grade participated meaningfully in the liturgy. They shared what they are most looking forward to this Christmas season — including family gatherings, seeing grandparents and friends, and visiting special holiday places. It was heartwarming to witness that not a single child mentioned looking forward to presents; instead, their reflections highlighted the importance of relationships, connection, and being with the people they love.

Students also shared their thoughts on what peace means to them and how they can be peacemakers in their classrooms, homes, and wider community. Their insights reflected a deep understanding of kindness, compassion, and the call to live out the message of Jesus during this holy season.

To conclude our liturgy, we listened to the beautiful prayer of St Francis of Assisi, “Make Me an Instrument of Your Peace.” It was a meaningful reminder of our shared mission to bring peace into the world, beginning with our own hearts.

Be the Hands of Christ This Christmas – Join Our Vinnies Hamper Team!

The St Vincent de Paul team from St Anne’s Parish will be delivering Christmas gift hampers to families in need on Sunday, 21st December 2025, from 9:00am to 12:00pm.

We are currently seeking volunteers and drivers to help with deliveries and spread a little Christmas joy to those in our community who need it most.

nForma Portal 

This year, at St Joachim’s we have transitioned to using the nForma portal (many via the nForma App) to access student reports, receive notifications such as the newsletter and advise the school of student absences. 

As explained earlier this year we are amalgamating a number of the communication platforms used here at school.  Operoo informed us in September that they were ceasing operations in Australia at the end of 2025, so moving forward to 2026 we will cease using Operoo. In 2026 our communication will now come through the nForma App on your phone or via the nForma portal on your desktop computer.

In 2026 we will be using the nForma portal to:

• Access your Child's Reports 

• Mark Attendances

• Receive notices

• Receive Forms - the Form function allows us to create permission forms that require parental consent. This will take over from Operoo.

• Medical - the medical module is where you will list your child's health conditions, attach health management plans and record medical history.  This will take over from Operoo.

JDB - Declan - For consistently reading his readers and completing his reading journal.

JDB - Darcy - For remembering to slow down and take his time when completing assessment tasks.

MNG - Flynn - For showing persistence and resilience when learning how to divide using the bus stop method. 

MNG - Ellie - for always giving 100% effort in every task throughout the year, and making amazing progress in reading. 

MSM - Evie - For applying the teacher feedback to their poem.

MSM - Kennedy - For using regrouping to solve division equations.

MLR - Godric - For writing lots of fantastic similes to describe a cat.

MLR - Zak - For writing a poem that included excellent use of rhyming and alliteration.

MYK - Tahj - For demonstrating creativity, thoughtful word choice, and a strong sense of rhythm and rhyme  in his poetry writing.

MYK - Brandon - For creating an engaging fable that used clear storytelling, characters and moral.

SLN - Shenaya - For the conscientious way she approaches all her learning and always give 100%.

SLN - Dhakshi - For her dedication to her studies and her kind interactions with others which helps make SLN a great place to be.

STC - Charlotte Wils - For her exceptional Frankentstory narrative on The Treasure Map, demonstrating outstanding creativity and engaging storytelling. 

STC - JP - For his positive transition into STC and showing determination, focus, and a willingness to learn. 

SWD - Isaac - For demonstrating great persistence and effort into improving his creative writing, making sure to include adjectives to engage his readers. 

SWD - Saffron - For applying her previous knowledge of percentages to find percentages of quantities of 1% 

SHJ - Tianna - For having a positive attitude and always volunteering to help others. Great Job!

SHJ - Gurshan - For showing excellent effort and progress in understanding the connections between fractions, decimals and percentages. Well Done!

GRAZIE MILLE

Grazie mille to all the parents, families and staff who went out of their way to make Italian Day extra special. My Italian Leaders, Sajith and Storm, were wonderful in the lead up to the day, as well as being molto bene co-presenters during our parade. The costumes were exceptional. 

We had a dining table, pasta and pizza makers, gelato stands, Miss Italia, Princess Peach’s, Mario’s, Nonna’s. Pope Leo; you name it, Italy was well represented; and for that I say, GRAZIE MILLE!

Luigi Zucchini provided the children with a live performance which showcased his amazing animale, as well as his love for Magic/Magia! He kept the children entertained and incorporated lots of the Italian language which was great.

Grazie mille to the Mamma’s who volunteered their time to assist with making ‘Crispeddi’, Italian Donuts. The children absolutely loved them.

A big thank you, grazie mille, also goes to the wonderful Year 6 children who ran the fun sessions on the oval: Maisy, Georgia, Milla, Sofia, Kayla, Sienna, Jasper, Ryder, Rhys, Onyx, Storm and Sajith.

Year 4 Art – Terracotta Air-Dry Clay 

Our enthusiastic and creative Year 4 students have been exploring terracotta air-dry clay and learning a range of hand-building techniques. This week, they combined pinch-pot and coil-pot methods to create a unique sculpture..

Students began by shaping a pinch pot as the base, then carefully rolled and attached coils to build up the walls of their design. Along the way, they learned how to manipulate the clay for strength and stability, smooth joins, and add texture or decorative details.
