Dear Parents,
Next Monday and Tuesday we have 8 staff members who will complete their final 2 days of training in the Berry Street education module. This training provides teachers with a suite of trauma-informed, strengths-based strategies for engaging all students with learning. We are looking forward to implementing this training in our school to improve both wellbeing and academic outcomes for our students.
Best wishes to our Year 4 – 6 students who are competing in the Cross Country competition at the Pines flora and Fauna Reserve next Tuesday (20th May).

Pope Leo XIV’s intention for May:

(Fifth Sunday of Easter)
The following is their reflection and prayers:
In today’s Gospel, Jesus has a very important message for his disciples, and for all who believe in him. Jesus asks us to love one another as he loves us.
As a class we read and discussed the following scripture verse.
“I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other as I have loved you. All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other.”
Jesus isn’t just saying, “Be nice to people”—He’s challenging us to love others deeply, to give of ourselves, and to do it without expecting anything in return, just like He did.
As a class, we explored what true love looks like, sounds like and feels like.
We thought of a time when someone showed you love in a meaningful way and how they did it.
We discussed how we could show love like Jesus today—to a friend, classmate, or even someone you find difficult.
What might change in our school, our family or the world if everyone lived by this command?
This week, choose one intentional act of love. It could be helping someone who’s left out, forgiving someone who hurt you, or speaking kindly when it's hard.
We then created a “Love Each Other” heart, with a quote or drawing showing what this command looks like in real life.
Loving God, we pray for world leaders: that they may follow Jesus’ example and show special care for people who are poor, sick, alone or afraid. Lord hear us.
Loving God, we pray for our new Pope Leo XIV, that he leads our universal church like Jesus our Good Shepherd. Lord hear us.
Dear God, may we pray for all children around the world: that they are loved and cared for and have hope for the future. Lord, hear us.
Loving God, we pray for our Church, family and friends: that we may love one another as Jesus loves us. Lord hear us.
It was wonderful to hear the children talking about what jobs they had done at school to earn some money for Project Compassion during Lent. Here is a letter of thanks we received.
Thanks to schools like yours during Project Compassion, students like Toefuata'iga in Samoa now have a 10,000-litre water tank, ensuring clean, reliable water for their education. Young people like Lam, living with a disability in Vietnam, now have access to skills training and opportunities that empower them to live with independence and dignity.
Thank you for being part of Project Compassion and for your school’s incredible generosity.

Last Friday, our school Cross Country Trials were held. Well done to all the children who participated.
The qualifying children have been sent an eForm via Operoo.
The children are reminded to carry a packed lunch and their water bottle.
All children must wear their sport uniform and carry a waterproof rain jacket in case of inclement weather.
Health and Safety: All children who suffer from asthma must carry their puffer on them throughout the race and report to a staff member on the track or at the base if they feel unwell.
We will leave school at 11:15am and return to school by 3pm. Good luck to the St Joachim’s Cross Country Team.
