Dear Parents,
I welcomed Leanne Johnson (Ava JSE) and Louise Miller (Olivia JSE) to our School Advisory Council meeting on Wednesday evening this week. Thank you ladies! At this meeting I presented our 4 year School Improvement Plan (2025 – 2025) explaining our 3 priority goals around improving numeracy achievement, using data more effectively and implementing explicit instruction, as a part of MACS Vision for Instruction policy.
Eight students travelled to St. Patrick’s Cathedral with our Religious Education Leader, Zeeta Andrew, today to represent us at the annual Catholic Education Week Mass. This was followed by a concert in the park, featuring performances from a number of Catholic schools. This event celebrated the final school day of Catholic Education Week for 2025.
Students and families are really looking forward to a fabulous outdoor movie night this evening! I remind parents about ensuring active supervision of your child/ren at this event, so that it can run smoothly and all children are safe. Thank you for following this up. Thank you also to our fabulous Parents and Friends group for their planning, organization and support of this event.
Our Year 3 and 4 Camp is coming up in the first week of next term. The dates are Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th April, and the camp is at Golden Valleys Camp in Flinders. Thank you to parents who are organizing and communicating requirements regarding medication, dietary requirements etc. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
Good luck to all students for our school athletics program on Monday afternoon. The competition will be fierce! Thank you to Reagon Haines and staff for your organization and supervision of this popular event. Thank you also to the many parents who attend in support.
We have 11 swimmers who will represent St. Joachim’s at the Divisional Swimming Competition at Rosebud next Wednesday. (Rhys, Onyx, Rupert, Charli, Nevaeh, Constance, Sophia, Shenaya, Charlotte, Pedro and Mya). They have all done very well to reach this level of competition and we are very proud of them. Go St. Joachim’s!
Best wishes to the 34 children from the parish who are preparing to make their First Reconciliation on Saturday 31st May at 3:00 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church. Fr. Martin is also keen to advertise for volunteers to support local Churches, who combine to run the Frankston Winter Shelter Program. If you are interested in giving your time to help vulnerable people within our community, please mark in your calendar a training and induction day on Saturday 22nd March, 9.00am at Peninsula City Church. Further details can be accessed by ringing the parish on 9401 6398.
A reminder that Term 1 ends on Friday 4th April at 1:00 p.m. This day is also Crazy sock Day where students can wear crazy socks to school, and bring a gold coin donation. Funds raised will go towards the important work that St. Vincent De Paul does in supporting families in our community.
Regards,
Paul Dwyer, Principal
Parents may open the gate and drive their cars into the school grounds at 2:30pm as long as there are no classes playing / working on the asphalt. The car park is a part of the play ground and includes basketball court and volleyball court which needs to be available should a teacher wish to use this with her / his class.

For our students, it was not just a religious event, but also a meaningful lesson in community and belonging. Standing together in prayer with students from Catholic schools across Melbourne, we felt united as one family of believers, making it a particularly fitting experience as we are in Harmony Week.
Following the Mass, the Concert in the Park for primary school students took place at the Treasury Gardens. The event featured live performances from various bands, and plenty of fun activities and games were organized for the children. Our students enjoyed their lunch while watching the incredible bands perform, making for a memorable day filled with both spiritual reflection and joyful celebration.
In Religion, we have been focusing on how we can emulate Jesus' example during this Lenten season. The children have been exploring the significance of Lent and Easter while developing an understanding of the signs and symbols associated with this sacred time.
On Friday, April 4th, at 11:15 am, the children from different grades will lead us in the Stations of the Cross, the journey Jesus made for us as He carried the cross to His Crucifixion.
Each grade level has chosen a station to reflect upon and are in the process of creating a prayer space to help deepen the children's understanding of the events of Holy Week and Easter.
Parents are warmly invited to visit the prayer spaces, reflect, and engage in this meaningful time. We also encourage you to join us for the Stations of the Cross service, where the children will share and reflect on their assigned station.
You are also warmly invited to attend the Stations of the Cross service.
(Third Sunday of Lent)
The following is their reflection and prayers:
In today’s Gospel Jesus tells us a parable about a Fig Tree, a gardener and a landowner. The fig tree did not bear any fruit and the gardener tried his best to do all things to make it grow better.
This parable helps us remember that God, like the gardener, tends to us with love and care. He doesn't give up on us, even when we may give up. God wants us to try hard so that we can grow.
As a class we have reflected on what actions we could ‘take up’ to make us each a better person and bring us closer to Jesus.
Dear God,
Help us to learn from our mistakes and grow to be better people.
Lord, hear us.
All: Lord, hear our prayer.
Loving God,
Guide us to make good choices and follow in your footsteps.
Lord, hear us.
All: Lord, hear our prayer.
Loving God,
Encourage us to persist and not give up when things are hard.
Lord, hear us.
All: Lord, hear our prayer.
Dear God,
Help us to keep our Lenten promise this Lent. Lord, hear us.
All: Lord, hear our prayer.
Dear God,
Thank you for being with us on our Journey through our happy times and hard times.
Lord hear us
All: Lord, hear our prayer.
Project Compassion is Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten fundraising and awareness-raising appeal. Project Compassion assists and empowers communities in Australia and all over the world by helping those in great need to shape a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.
As you would be aware students from our school have been contributing money to this cause through the Project Compassion boxes at school.
We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent by supporting Project Compassion. Donations can be made in the homeroom each morning or at the Front Office.

The students in Year 1 have been keen to learn about the animals and discovered that penguins are the most populated bird living in the frozen waters of Antarctica. The students have been drawing penguins with all its important features such as a beak, flippers and webbed feet to help them balance on the slippery snow and ice!
Did you know that a male penguin balances the egg on its feet so that the embryo does not freeze and can hatch into a chick?

St Joachim's Primary School P&F
The Camp Australia Outside school hours care program provides a safe environment ain which all can explore and play.
Our school uses the Audiri App to help us communicate more effectively with our Parent community. This type of notification does not usually require a response from parents (as Operoo does).
We ask parents to install our Audiri School App which is easily obtainable from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Once installed, just search for our school name “St Joachim's Primary School”.
Absence notifications are sent to the school via the Audiri App. These notifications are seen by the classroom teacher, and the office staff who manage the daily roll.
Parents and carers have an obligation to notify the school of their child’s absence as soon as possible on the day of absence - preferably before 8:30am.
Other messages such as early pick up, can also sent using the Absence notifications form of the Audiri App.
Here’s a video on how to send absence notifications.
If you're having trouble with your Audiri App on your phone, it may need to be deleted and the latest version installed. Families and staff are telling us that this has fixed any Audiri issues that they have been having.
Thank you to families who keep their Operoo profiles up to date such as when they change their address, phone number, parents work contact details etc. If you could also email the office@sjcarrumdowns.catholic.edu.au and let us know, so that we can adjust on our system as well.
St Joachim's Uniform is available from Peninsula Uniforms online shop or by visiting their shop in Carrum Downs.
