Parents may open the gate and drive their cars into the school grounds at 2:30pm as long as there are no classes playing / working on the asphalt. The car park is a part of the play ground and includes basketball court and volleyball court which needs to be available should a teacher wish to use this with her / his class.

Last Friday’s Movie Night was an incredible success! The weather was kind to us, and we had a fantastic turnout, with families coming together to enjoy a wonderful evening. A huge thank you to our amazing Parents and Friends team for their hard work in organising this special event. Also to our staff members Rebecca Todisco, Carolyn Yass, Mel Wharton, and Renee Felmingham, who generously stayed back with me to help on the night. Your support is truly appreciated! Thank you to everyone who attended and made the evening so special.
This week was packed with exciting sporting events: Sports Day on Monday, Divisional Swimming Competition for 11 of our students and the Senior Lightning Premiership Competition today.
On Monday, during the day (Tabloid Sports) our students had a fantastic time working together in multi-age groups participating in a variety of fun activities led by our Grade 6s. It was wonderful to see our older students supporting and encouraging the younger ones, ensuring everyone had an enjoyable and inclusive day. A huge thank you to Reagan Haines for organizing such a fantastic event, as well as to our wonderful staff and parents who helped everything run so smoothly. Your support and enthusiasm made the day a great success!
At 11:20 a.m. on Friday, we will also hold a Whole School Stations of the Cross Service. Parents and families are most welcome to join us for this special reflection.
This day is also Crazy Sock Day, where students are encouraged to wear their wackiest, most colorful socks to school and bring a gold coin donation. All funds raised will go towards the important work of St. Vincent de Paul, helping support families in our community. We look forward to seeing some fantastic sock choices!
While Blue House took home the win in the Athletics portion of Sports Day, Red House has earned the most points over the term! As a reward, Red House students can wear a red T-shirt next week along with their crazy socks for Crazy Sock Day. Congratulations to all students for their amazing effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the term!

On Friday, April 4th, at 11:20 am, we will gather as a school community to walk with Jesus through his final hours.
The children from different grades will lead us in the Stations of the Cross. Each grade level has created a prayer space to help deepen the children's understanding of the events of Holy Week and Easter.
Parents are warmly invited to visit the prayer spaces, reflect, and engage in this meaningful time.
We also encourage you to join us for the Stations of the Cross service, where the children will share and reflect on their ‘Prayer Space/Station.
You are also warmly invited to attend the Stations of the Cross service.
Here’s Dante receiving his Mini Vinnies badge at the school assembly.
Our student leaders had the honor of attending the St. Patrick's Day Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne last Friday, March 21st, 2025. Here are some of their reflections:
Onyx:
Being at St. Patrick's Cathedral felt like a dream come true. The sound of the bells, the organ, and the choir's singing were absolutely perfect—it felt surreal. What made it even more special was carrying the St. Joachim's banner down the church alongside representatives from 297 other schools. It was an experience I never imagined could happen, and I was proud to represent the school in such a meaningful way.
Lavaan:
When all of us went to the city, I felt incredibly amazed and grateful for the experience. But what really stood out was when we entered St. Patrick's Cathedral. It was massive and breathtaking. I especially loved the moment when all our school banners were displayed—it was a powerful representation of our school and who we are.
Mia:
It was my first time visiting St. Patrick's Cathedral, and it was even bigger and more impressive than I had imagined. Seeing students from 297 Catholic schools come together to celebrate Mass was truly incredible. I felt proud carrying our school banner at the start of the Mass—it was an unforgettable experience.
(Fourth Sunday of Lent)
The following is their reflection and prayers:
During this season of Lent we are reminded that it is a time to think about the choices that we make. In today’s parable we have learnt that God will always forgive us, if we are truly sorry and ask for forgiveness.
As a class we reflected on how we can show God's forgiveness to others?
We can show God’s forgiveness by being more like him and making peace, forgiving others and loving all people.
For example:
When you do wrong by your friends, you can show you are sorry by shaking hands and trying to be a better friend.
When you do wrong by your family you can show you are sorry by giving them a hug
As a class we have reflected on what actions we could ‘take up’ to make us each a better person and bring us closer to Jesus.
Prayers of the Faithful:
Loving God,
Thank you for always loving us and giving us second chances.
Lord hear us
All: Lord, hear our prayer.
Please help us to remember and think about how our actions may hurt others and to say sorry if they have upset someone.
Lord hear us.
All: Lord, hear our prayer.
Loving God,
Please help us to forgive each other when our friends are sorry for something they have done.
Lord hear us.
All: Lord, hear our prayer.
Dear God,
Help us to spend more time with you during this Lenten season.
Lord hear us.
All: Lord, hear our prayer.
Loving God,
We pray for all those who are sick. We also remember their family and friends and we ask God to give them strength and comfort at this time of need.
Lord hear us.
All: Lord, hear our prayer.
Dear God,
In this Jubilee Year, we pray that we may be signs of hope in our world through all that we do and how we treat one another. Lord hear us.
All: Lord, hear our prayer.
Project Compassion is Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten fundraising and awareness-raising appeal. Project Compassion assists and empowers communities in Australia and all over the world by helping those in great need to shape a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.
As you would be aware students from our school have been contributing money to this cause through the Project Compassion boxes at school.
We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent by supporting Project Compassion. Donations can be made in the homeroom each morning or at the Front Office.

Foundation students at St Joachim's are loving the letter 'W'!
At St Joachim’s we have noticed many benefits of physical activity for our students. You do not need to be super sporty or heading to represent Australia at the olympics to benefit from physical activity.
At its essence, being a part of a sports team helps students of all ages to develop friendships and participation encourages respect for diversity.
Research has shown a strong connection between sports activities and improved memory and cognitive functions of the brain, meaning skills such as coordination, multitasking and situational awareness all enhance academic capabilities.
The ability to use sport as a tool to develop leadership skills, which can lead to good decision making.
Maintaining a positive mindset, is a core skill that often supersedes the physical ability to play a sport competitively.
Even participation in a light activity such as walking will release endorphins and can help increase blood flow to the brain.
Staying active can help with supporting a better sleep routine.
Sports may even help ward off issues like depression and anxiety.
Ball sports can improve hand-eye and foot-eye coordination promoting better balance.
Physical activity helps to regulate mood and is a great stress reliever.
Almost all students had a great day on Monday at our Tabloid Sports and then Athletics even though it was a tiring day for them (and the adults)!

Most students said they loved the papaya, some were not so sure. A few words students used to describe the taste were: yummy, gooey, slippery, juicy, sweet, delicious, orangey, like a sweet pumpkin, strange, amazing, unusual.

During reading groups we focus on a reading strategy. This week we have been focusing on Making Connections. We use our prior knowledge to help increase our understanding of a text and remember what has been done.

I would like to commend all the students on their fantastic efforts. The girls 12/13 freestyle relay team placed 3rd, the boys/mixed 12/13 freestyle relay team placed 2nd and the boys/mixed medley relay placed first. Onyx finished 2nd in the 12/13 year boy’s butterfly and Mya finished 3rd in the 11 year old girls butterfly 50m race.
House points are accumulated every 2 weeks for a number of great and kind deeds that children perform in the many areas of their day to day school life: working hard in lessons, having a go, helping others, being respectful, helping keep our school grounds clean, for including others and being kind. The achievement is an accumulated team effort.
Every end of term the HOUSE with the most points will see their efforts rewarded with a free dress up day in their HOUSE COLOURS. This term, the award goes to the RED HOUSE. Well done to all the children for a great team effort. All RED HOUSE children get to dress up in a RED T SHIRT to celebrate their achievement next Friday.

St Joachim's Primary School P&F
The Camp Australia Outside school hours care program provides a safe environment ain which all can explore and play.
Our school uses the Audiri App to help us communicate more effectively with our Parent community. This type of notification does not usually require a response from parents (as Operoo does).
We ask parents to install our Audiri School App which is easily obtainable from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Once installed, just search for our school name “St Joachim's Primary School”.
Absence notifications are sent to the school via the Audiri App. These notifications are seen by the classroom teacher, and the office staff who manage the daily roll.
Parents and carers have an obligation to notify the school of their child’s absence as soon as possible on the day of absence - preferably before 8:30am.
Other messages such as early pick up, can also sent using the Absence notifications form of the Audiri App.
Here’s a video on how to send absence notifications.
If you're having trouble with your Audiri App on your phone, it may need to be deleted and the latest version installed. Families and staff are telling us that this has fixed any Audiri issues that they have been having.
Thank you to families who keep their Operoo profiles up to date such as when they change their address, phone number, parents work contact details etc. If you could also email the office@sjcarrumdowns.catholic.edu.au and let us know, so that we can adjust on our system as well.
St Joachim's Uniform is available from Peninsula Uniforms online shop or by visiting their shop in Carrum Downs.
