Dear Parents,
Students enjoyed participating in the performing arts incursion with the Wyniss group on Monday this week. This group comes from the Torres Strait islands and performed a number of traditional songs, stories and dances. Thank you to our Performing Arts teacher, Tanya Antolos, for organizing this.
Congratulations to all of our Year 5 and 6 students for their teamwork, effort, and encouragement of each other, as they competed in football, netball and soccer at the Winter Lightning Premiership competition today. Thank you also to our senior school staff for their organization and supervision, and to parents who coached and supported our students today.
Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) recently launched a new Vision for Engagement document, which complements the Vision for Instruction document currently in use. The Vision for Instruction identifies the most effective teaching methods, supported by evidence of their positive impact on student outcomes.
The Vision for Engagement follows this up, focusing on our faith-inspired and evidence-informed commitment to nurturing calm, respectful, and inclusive learning environments where students are best supported to thrive academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
The implementation of these two key documents and strategies in all Catholic schools in Melbourne, ensures that our students are receiving high quality explicit instruction, which is delivered with strategies promoting the maximum engagement of students’ in their learning.
Congratulations to our Southern Regional Bishop, Bishop Tony Ireland, on his recent appointment as the Archbishop of Hobart. I thank Bishop Tony for his spiritual guidance, leadership and support of St. Joachim’s school and St. Anne’s parish. The Melbourne Archdiocese will advise us of the appointment of a new Bishop for the Southern Region of Melbourne in due course.
Thank you for your support of St. Anne’s Winter Shelter program so far. The following food items are still required, and would be gratefully received as donations at the office. ‘Up & Go’s, muesli bars, Primas, fruit cups, Le Snacks, small individual packets of chips (like for school lunches) and Cup-a-soups. If you are able to assist with any of these items, it would be much appreciated.
Preparations are continuing for our Art show next term, which will be open to parents from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on the evening of Thursday 28th August. Students are proud of, and so excited, to share their creative artworks with their families. Please note this date in your diaries now.
I look forward to seeing parents at our Parent/Teacher interviews next Tuesday 1st July (3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.) and Wednesday 2nd July (2:00 p.m. – 6: 00 p.m.) A reminder that school will finish at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday 2nd July to facilitate these meetings.
Please note: School will conclude for Term 2 next Friday 4th July at 1:00 p.m. School will resume for Term 3 on Monday 21st July.

It is important that all students wear appropriate footwear ie their shoes / runners and definitely no slippers.
All the gold coins collected will support Mums supporting Families in Need.
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) on School Students who require adjustments to their learning is a yearly count of students by all Australian schools across the country. The NCCD aims to provide the Australian Government with information about the number of students who require support and adjustments in Australian schools and the type of adjustments they need in order to access and participate in education on the same basis as other students. If you are a parent, guardian or carer of a child who requires ongoing adjustments at school, a teacher or another school staff member will consult with you to understand your child’s needs. This collaborative approach ensures the most appropriate adjustments are chosen to support your child’s learning and participation at school. In some cases, a personal learning plan (PLP) may be developed to document specific educational goals and to review your child’s progress over time.

They enjoyed asking Fr Martin questions and telling him things they know about Jesus.
The children reflected on what type of person they think Jesus would be.

It is essential to acknowledge that no matter the path one chooses or the challenges one faces, each person is never truly alone. Every individual is inherently deserving of love, and each contributes to the vibrant community in which we all belong. In this space, we celebrate the uniqueness of every person, acknowledging that each individual is a one-of-a-kind creation, deserving of respect and dignity.
Our Catholic school serves as a safe haven—a sacred place where we can gather, unite, and grow together. It is here that we foster an environment conducive to learning and sharing, where the values of compassion, understanding, and mutual respect are deeply embedded in our interactions. By embracing the cultural richness of Aboriginal traditions and perspectives, we not only enhance our understanding of one another but also enrich the collective experience of our school community.
In essence, love and unity are not merely ideals; they are the very foundation upon which we build our relationships and our shared journey. As we walk together, we create a supportive network that empowers each member of our community to thrive, learn, and contribute meaningfully to the world around us.

I am thrilled to invite you to a vibrant and inspiring celebration of creativity at our upcoming Primary School Art Exhibition — a journey across continents through the eyes of our talented students!
Our students have embarked on a global artistic exploration, creating masterpieces inspired by diverse cultures and continents. The exhibition features:
Colourful Displays: Walls adorned with vibrant artworks representing each continent from different year levels.
Come Dressed: as your favourite artist or wearing your favourite colour (s)!
Interactive Stations: Engage with art from different cultures, including African paintings, Asian Elephants, and Mexican folk art as well as so much more!
Student Guides: Our young artists will be on hand to share the stories and inspirations behind their creations.
Collaborative Art Display: Engage in creating a new art installation at the event.
Upon entry, each family will receive a "World Art Passport." As you explore the exhibition, collect stamps from each continent's display. and answer questions about the art pieces!
This exhibition is more than just an art show—it's a testament to our students' imagination, hard work, and the rich tapestry of cultures that inspire them. We look forward to sharing this colourful journey with you and celebrating the universal language of art!
The title of the ART EXHIBITION is yet to come as the students in Year 5/6 are currently deciding on a name for the event.
The lids can be from milk containers, laundry detergents, medicine lids... the more shapes, sizes and colour the better!
They can be dropped off at the ART HUB on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Thanks in advance for your help !

We have identified and investigated the structure and text features of procedural texts and even had a go at writing our own! Inspired by the book ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’ by Michelle Robinson, the year 3 students worked hard to write their own step by step instructions, using imperative verbs and adverbs. Here are some examples of procedural writing that we are really proud of.

The quality of their musicianship, their humour, costumes and traditional instruments all made for an informative and entertaining experience that I hope will stay with the students for years to come. All students now have a wealth of knowledge about how music, dance and games are central to the culture of the people of the Torres Strait Islands. The photos include some of the students’ words that they used to describe Wyniss’s performances.
