“In love and unity, the St Joachim’s community embraces diversity.
Together we inspire lifelong learning, enlightened by Catholic faith,
to make a difference in our ever changing world.”

Dear Parents,
Our Beginning of the school year Mass today, was a special time to look forward with hope and pray as a school faith community, as we embark on a new school year in this special holy year of Jubilee. The theme of our Mass was “Pilgrims of Hope” reflecting the 2025 Jubilee theme. In addition, our staff were commissioned for their important work in continuing the Church’s mission in Education. Thank you to Fr. Martin for leading us, and to students, staff and families who participated reverently.
I am looking forward to seeing many parents at our Meet and Greet parent /teacher interviews next Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to all parents, as the information that you provide to teachers is invaluable in assisting us to support students’ academic, social and wellbeing needs.
Best wishes to our 12 Fire Carrier students and indigenous students who will attend a commissioning ceremony at John Paul College next Thursday (20th February).
Next week our school leaders will participate in professional learning in the Berry Street Education model, which equips both mainstream and specialist schools with practical, classroom-based strategies to increase the engagement of all students. This is part of our commitment to education excellence at our school.
A reminder that our School photos will be taken on Monday 24th February. Students are required to come dressed in full summer uniform on this day.
Good luck to students representing St. Joachim’s at the District Swimming carnival at the Pines Aquatic Centre on Tuesday 25th February.
I have been advised that, as part of the Department of Transport requirements for funding of the School Crossings program, an annual vehicle and pedestrian count will be conducted week (commencing Monday 17th February). So, if you see a camera mounted on a pole near the school, these are in place for the purpose of vehicle/pedestrian counts.
Our School Advisory Council (SAC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on the evening of Thursday 27th starting at 6:30 p.m. We currently need to fill 2 more positions on the SAC. The School Advisory Council provides a forum for discussion and discernment, where the parent/guardian voice and perspective are available to inform and support the decisions made by the principal and parish priest for the good of school and parish, where the wellbeing and outcomes for students is paramount. We meet approximately 6 times per year. If you are interested in joining the SAC, please pick up an expression of interest form from the office.
Please note: Students are now permitted to wear sports uniform on days when they have performing Arts classes, if they wish. This is to assist students to be more comfortable in participating in the more active Performing Arts curriculum.

Paul Dwyer, Principal

Today, we gathered in the Hall to celebrate the start of a new school year. Fr. Martin led a beautiful Mass, during which we welcomed back all those who were part of the St. Joachim’s school community, as well as giving a special welcome to our new Foundation grade students and staff members. It was a particularly meaningful occasion, as the staff were commissioned, and the entire community took the Jubilee pledge.
Throughout this year, we will continue to learn and grow together, supporting one another and sharing God’s love with everyone we encounter. We are committed to strengthening our community by fostering relationships through shared experiences and collaboration, creating a sense of belonging for all.
The theme for this Jubilee Year in 2025 is called Pilgrims of Hope. As Pope Francis expressed it:
“We must fan the flame of hope that has been given us and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart and far-sighted vision.”
Pope Francis has invited Catholics to renew our hope and discover a vision that can “restore access to the fruits of the earth to everyone”. We are also invited to rediscover a spirituality of God’s creation in which we understand ourselves as “pilgrims on the earth” rather than masters of the world.
Father in heaven,
may the faith you have given us
in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope
for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform us
into tireless cultivators of the
seeds of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within
both humanity and the whole cosmos
in the sure expectation
of a new heaven and a new earth,
when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,
your glory will shine eternally.
May the grace of the Jubilee
reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread
the joy and peace of our Redeemer
throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed,
be glory and praise for ever.
Amen.
All are warmly invited.

Ticketing details will be available soon.
The Camp Australia Outside school hours care program provides a safe environment ain which all can explore and play.
Our school uses the Audiri App to help us communicate more effectively with our Parent community. This type of notification does not usually require a response from parents (as Operoo does).
We ask parents to install our Audiri School App which is easily obtainable from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Once installed, just search for our school name “St Joachim's Primary School”.
Absence notifications are sent to the school via the Audiri App. These notifications are seen by the classroom teacher, and the office staff who manage the daily roll.
Parents and carers have an obligation to notify the school of their child’s absence as soon as possible on the day of absence - preferably before 8:30am.
Other messages such as early pick up, can also sent using the Absence notifications form of the Audiri App.
Here’s a video on how to send absence notifications.
If you're having trouble with your Audiri App on your phone, it may need to be deleted and the latest version installed. Families and staff are telling us that this has fixed any Audiri issues that they have been having.
Thank you to families who keep their Operoo profiles up to date such as when they change their address, phone number, parents work contact details etc. If you could also email the office@sjcarrumdowns.catholic.edu.au and let us know, so that we can adjust on our system as well.
St Joachim's Uniform is available from Peninsula Uniforms online shop or by visiting their shop in Carrum Downs.
