Dear Parents,
Congratulations to all students who represented St. Joachim’s School at the District Swimming competition on Tuesday this week. All swimmers gave their best effort and we are very proud of you. Well done! Best wishes to the individual students and teams going through to the Divisional Swimming competition at Rosebud on Wednesday 26th March. They are; Pedro and Onyx in 50 metre Butterfly events, and our Girls 12/13 200 metre Freestyle team (Constance B, Sophia L, Shenaya R , Charlotte W), our Mixed 12/13 200 metre Freestyle team (Rhys A, Onyx ,Rupert D, Charli P) and our Mixed Medley relay team (Rhys A, Nevaeh D, Rupert D, Mya P). Go St. Joachim’s! Thank you to staff and parents who attended in support.
Thank you also to St. Joachim’s staff who finalized their first aid training this week. All staff are now fully trained in first aid.
I have noticed that a small number of students are arriving at school very early each morning, before staff have arrived at school. This is a child safety risk! Parents are reminded that students should not be dropped at school before 8:15 a.m. when staff commence duty in the carpark. Parents who need to drop students at school before 8:15 a.m. are required to book them into our on site Before School Care program, run by Camp Australia. Please do not put your child/ren in an unsafe position. Bookings can be made at campaustralia.com.au
I have just received a student list of our 2026 Year 7 enrolments for John Paul College. All parents of current Year 6 students should by now have confirmed a Year 7 school enrolment for 2026. If you haven’t, and are intending to send your child to John Paul College, please contact the office urgently. Enrolments for current Year 5 students wishing to enrol at John Paul College in 2027 will open in August.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of our School Advisory Council (SAC) was held last night. At this meeting we reviewed the work of the SAC in 2024 and thanked a retiring member, Linda Azzopardi. Linda resigned from the SAC at the end of 2024, after 4 years of generous service to the school community. My grateful thanks to Linda, who has contributed a great deal in her role as secretary and general member in this time.
Next Tuesday is Pancake Tuesday when all students will enjoy pancakes. Also, next Tuesday photographers will return to complete our sibling photos that were missed on Monday this week.
All parents are warmly invited to attend our Ash Wednesday liturgy next Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. in the hall. Students have been learning about the importance of Lent as a time of preparation before Easter. Our focus at this time is on prayer, self sacrifice and almsgiving.
The preparation evening for parents and students making the Sacrament of First Reconciliation will be held at St. Anne’s Church, Austin Road, Seaford at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday (6th March).
A reminder that next Friday (7th March) the school will be closed to facilitate staff professional learning on the Year of Jubilee.
The school will also be closed on Monday (March 10th) for the Labour Day public holiday.
Regards,
Paul Dwyer, Principal
Parents may open the gate and drive their cars into the school grounds at 2:30pm as long as there are no classes playing / working on the asphalt. The car park is a part of the play ground and includes basketball court and volleyball court which needs to be available should a teacher wish to use this with her / his class.

On Wednesday, 5th March, our entire school will gather for a special Liturgy of the Word in the school hall at 11:15 AM. This Prayer Service will mark Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Church season of Lent. We warmly invite all families to join us for this meaningful celebration.
(Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time)
The following is their reflection and prayers:
In today’s Gospel Jesus reminds us of the importance of doing good and the impact that our words and actions have on others.
We must think about changing our own behaviour before asking anyone else to do the same. God can help us. If we let him.
As a class, we reflected on this being the Jubilee year and as pilgrims of hope we take on the challenge of spreading kindness and hope through our actions and through our words to the people in our lives- our family, friends and our community.
We thought of different words and acts of kindness that spread hope, love and peace to those around us, making our world a better place.
Prayers of the Faithful:
Dear God, may we pray for the Church throughout the world: that we may be an example of the goodness, love and hope of God in our world. Lord, hear us.
Dear God, may we pray for world leaders: that the words that they speak and the things that they do may come from a heart filled with goodness. Lord, hear us.
Dear God, may we pray for our parish, our family and friends: that we may all be willing to open our hearts to God, to admit our mistakes, to make a change, and to speak up for what is right. Lord, hear us.
Dear God, in this Jubilee Year, we pray that we may be signs of hope in our world through all that we do and how we treat one another.
Lord, hear us.
Father in heaven,
may the faith you have given us
in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope
for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform us
into tireless cultivators of the
seeds of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within
both humanity and the whole cosmos
in the sure expectation
of a new heaven and a new earth,
when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,
your glory will shine eternally.
May the grace of the Jubilee
reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread
the joy and peace of our Redeemer
throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed,
be glory and praise for ever.
Amen.
Please note that there have been changes in the sacramental dates particularly with the sacrament of Reconciliation dates.

Hello families and friends, My name is Hailey and I am super proud to be St Joachim's 2025 Art captain! I am very grateful to have this role because I can prove to everyone how much Art really means to our school. Art captain is a very important role because it helps our school not only look better, but it helps bring out people's talent! I think being Art captain is a very amazing thing to take on and it teaches me and any other Art captain, to be responsible and it shows how amazing you really are! Thankyou Mrs Wharton for giving me this opportunity to be Art Captain in my last year of primary school! I hope all teachers and students love our hard work this year in Art!

A warm welcome to the foundation students who have made a great start to the new year. The students have been assigned their SPORTS HOUSE COLOURS and they have started participating as teams in mini athletics competitive activities. Our focus for the year is the introduction to the basic motor skills of running, hurdling and dodging and manipulative skills: throwing, catching, striking, kicking, rolling, basic gymnastics and a focus on social and interpersonal skills of taking turns, sharing equipment, following the basic rules of minor games and teamwork. I appeal to parents to please assist in the development of these skill areas by providing plenty of opportunities for their children to practice and refine these skills.

St Joachim's Primary School P&F
The Camp Australia Outside school hours care program provides a safe environment ain which all can explore and play.
Our school uses the Audiri App to help us communicate more effectively with our Parent community. This type of notification does not usually require a response from parents (as Operoo does).
We ask parents to install our Audiri School App which is easily obtainable from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Once installed, just search for our school name “St Joachim's Primary School”.
Absence notifications are sent to the school via the Audiri App. These notifications are seen by the classroom teacher, and the office staff who manage the daily roll.
Parents and carers have an obligation to notify the school of their child’s absence as soon as possible on the day of absence - preferably before 8:30am.
Other messages such as early pick up, can also sent using the Absence notifications form of the Audiri App.
Here’s a video on how to send absence notifications.
If you're having trouble with your Audiri App on your phone, it may need to be deleted and the latest version installed. Families and staff are telling us that this has fixed any Audiri issues that they have been having.
Thank you to families who keep their Operoo profiles up to date such as when they change their address, phone number, parents work contact details etc. If you could also email the office@sjcarrumdowns.catholic.edu.au and let us know, so that we can adjust on our system as well.
St Joachim's Uniform is available from Peninsula Uniforms online shop or by visiting their shop in Carrum Downs.
